@maustermuhle I wonder why they wouldn’t build underground parking. Or at least partially underground. Has there been any mention of that?

An interesting update here: There may be some issues with one of the big parking decks the Commanders want to build on the RFK site. Recently the U.S. Commission of Fine Arts said the deck to the southeast of the new stadium would interfere with views, and asked that it be moved.
Martin Austermuhle@maustermuhle

New renderings of the new Commanders stadium at RFK again show many parcels of the site will be surface parking before residential/retail construction starts, probably in years after stadium opens. The renderings also show the scale of the two parking decks. They're *big*.

@SnowFan21771 @dcpublicschools In my neighborhood, kids cannot arrive before 8:10-8:45, depending on the school, with class time starting around 8:30 or later. The sun rises around 7 these days... an hour+ before. But it looks like you are in MD, maybe schools start earlier there. This is a DCPS thread

@bgavio @dcpublicschools I agree. My point was to prevent kids from walking in the dark in these bad conditions. Because the sidewalks are bad many might have to walk in the streets. It’s much more dangerous walking in the dark

DCPS will open on a 2-hour delay for Monday, February 2. Students should report to school two hours later than the normal start time. All before-care and morning programs are cancelled. Breakfast will be available for students upon arrival. Please travel safely.

@SnowFan21771 @dcpublicschools Many sidewalks are in bad shape, but the sun is not melting anything in two hours at these temps. My point remains it's no safer. Today I walked charter kid on time at 8 and daycare kid delayed at 10:30, and there was no difference in conditions

@bgavio @dcpublicschools It allows the sun to come up and makes it a little safer for everyone to get to school, especially walkers where the sidewalks are not good. Although in this situation a 1 hour delay would probably be sufficient. Maybe that’s something they should look into

@DCDPW lots of unshoveled sidewalks (but cleared private walkways from front doors to street parking...) near Mundo Verde's 8th St NE campus, in the vicinity of 4000 10th St NE

@MayorBowser Why? It hasn’t snowed in a full week. And while the city’s cleanup has been subpar, there is no difference in conditions between 8 and 10 am. The delays are extremely disruptive. Parents need to work, and kids need to learn. Good re Tuesday I guess… but geez

@MayorBowser the pay equity fund is critical for our wonderful early childhood educators and DC families. Childcare is necessary infrastructure for a thriving city but already too scarce and expensive. Our educators—largely Black and brown women—deserve fair wages & benefits

The budget from @MayorBowser would be catastrophic for DC families. It guts child care, early childhood educator pay, DCPS teachers, rent relief, legal aid, violence prevention, victim services, Baby Bonds, DC's Earned Income Tax Credit and SNAP food assistance. Unconscionable.
Tazra Mitchell@TazraMitchell

The Mayor's budget essentially eliminates the Pay Equity Fund for a mostly Black and brown woman workforce caring for young children, burning it/the progress we've made to the ground. So damn shameful.

@VABVOX Just stop. They DID tell the public in Jan she was having major surgery, would be out till after Easter without further updates & asked for privacy. “Many people” denied her that. The sexism is gross too. She hired her staff & is the boss; she is not a damsel in distress

THIS. Many people were legitimately concerned about Kate Middleton's well-being and said just that. Being Princess is an actual job. When you don't show up for work for three months with no reason given, people get concerned. Particularly given the Palace's treatment of Meghan and Diana.
Christopher Bouzy (spoutible.com/cbouzy)@cbouzy

Watching the UK press attempt to shame the public after they published stories that were untrue is something to behold. The public said they were being lied to and something else was going on. Spoiler alert: They were being lied to. This latest strategy is going to backfire.

@clhubes The phone lines are down, so the family can't get in touch with him. But he can call and order a cheese pizza for delivery... And the delivery guy would 100% call the cops after thinking he was being shot at!

@BrianneKNadeau Except how many people who do pay their fines get $12k+ in tickets over a year or two? Who can afford that? People who don't pay have less (no?) incentive to even try to follow the rules of the road.

A person who drives dangerously and pays their fines is no less dangerous than the person who drives dangerously and doesn’t pay their fines. Four traffic safety bills today w/a common theme: accountability.

And we're live for today's joint-hearing w/ @BrianneKNadeau on curbing dangerous driving with plenty to talk about across four bills. More than 20 ANC representatives set to testify among the full witness list. Watch live: dc.granicus.com/MediaPlayer.ph…

@MayorBowser @OUC_DC it is horrific that 10 dogs died but somehow lucky that no people died too. DC residents should not have to rely on LUCK in an emergency. It is your job to be prepared and this area has been flood-prone for decades. Your lack of accountability is appalling
🌸 Chelsea Cirruzzo@ChelseaCirruzzo

By the time a third emergency call was made at 5:18, workers were telling dispatchers they were afraid for the life of one of their colleagues. Responders didn’t make contact until 5:35.

I support D.C. Statehood and home-rule – but I don’t support some of the changes D.C. Council put forward over the Mayor’s objections – such as lowering penalties for carjackings. If the Senate votes to overturn what D.C. Council did – I’ll sign it.

Eleanor #DCStatehood Holmes Norton
National election days are stark reminders of the injustice of the nearly 700,000 DC residents, who pay the same federal taxes as residents of states, having no voting representation in Congress and only limited, revocable local self-governing authority.
