We need to get on with the job. I attended Cabinet this morning having flown back from Cyprus last night where I was working on preparing the next UK-EU Summit.
We have to reject both panic and comfort, and put country before party.

After years of austerity, the country and its people need stability; a change in leadership will not achieve this.
As a party, we must stand behind Starmer to deliver the change we promised.

🚨EXC - 103 backbenchers and PPSs have signed a statement saying this is ‘no time for a leadership contest’. The statement was organised by group of backbenchers, many from the 2024 intake. So far, the number exceeds those calling for him to quit - organisers say it’s rising.

Just out of Cabinet and then the Middle East Response Committee.
The impact of the conflict in Iran will be felt here at home at a time when we know the cost of living has been difficult for many.
This Labour government is working hard to protect families and businesses from the economic shocks as much as we can.
Serious times call for serious leadership, which is exactly what the Prime Minister is providing.

We rightly criticised the Tories for plunging this country into chaos time and time again with endless leadership contests. Labour should not do the same.

We were elected less than two years ago to end the political chaos of the Conservatives, to bring back stability, to govern properly, to change lives.
That is what we must do.

For reasons set out already I back the Prime Minister to turn things around.
No leadership election has been triggered, and he has a job to do.
One thing I do know about Keir: he won't have spent the weekend worrying about his career, he'll have been thinking of the country.

A Labour Party spokesperson, responding to Zack Polanski’s admission that he has failed to pay the correct council tax, said:
“After repeatedly claiming his council tax was all above board, Zack Polanski has been caught red handed.
The Green Party leader has already been found out for fibbing over his employment history, and his hypnosis skills, and now this has emerged too. What else is Polanski hiding?
This pattern of misleading the public shows Zack Polanski simply cannot be trusted.”

I was in the room for @Keir_Starmer speech this morning. Based on what I saw and how it was delivered, I have only one conclusion.
Keir should stay in post.
Keir was absolutely in his element, the content of the speech shows that he understands the issues, the actions shows that after certain personnel departures we are now supercharging the right direction.
These elections were difficult, in Stevenage although we removed the leader of the Reform UK group from the council, we still lost 9 seats, which is a huge blow from winning 32/39 seats two years ago.
We didn’t do enough to convince the public things will get better, but we never will if we are embroiled in our own psychodrama.
It is understandable that MP’s right now are getting pressure put on them from councillors, activists and local party members, a lot of whom have been wiped out last weekend, or have close friends and colleagues who have lost their seats.
My message to them, is stay strong. If today is any indicator, were are on the right path & you should not put that in jeopardy.
Keir Starmer was elected to lead national renewal. If he takes the bold steps he outlined to change how government works, speak clearly about who Labour governs for and why, coupled with the pace of delivery already under way, a second term remains within reach.
Swapping leaders will not get us there. That is the clear to me.

I've always been clear: he must stay.

When I say every child should have the opportunity to go as far as their talent takes them, I mean every single child.
Children who grew up in poverty, with special educational needs, those who can't get a job.
We back them: every young person struggling to find work will get a guaranteed offer of a job, training, or a work placement.
