Electric vehicle adoption in Ethiopia 🇪🇹 is rising rapidly. The country now leads Africa in electric mobility, having overtaken Ghana, with more than 115,000 EVs on the road out of roughly 1.5 million total vehicles. This makes it the continent’s largest EV market. Growth accelerated after the 2024 ban on new petrol and diesel car imports, along with reduced taxes on EVs. Electric vehicles are cheaper to operate and help the country save valuable foreign currency previously spent on fuel.
