@dashwoodard @politico Do you honestly believe that by punishing Dem-leaning cities/counties in red states you defend the Constitution?

@NancyMace South Carolina is a diverse state and that's illogical and unfair to punish non-Republican voters by creating this gerrymandered mess.

For absolutely no reason, @GovernorKayIvey is giving Democrats a free seat in AL-07. The seat is racially gerrymandered (which is against the law), drawing in black voters from across the state into one district.
Todd Stacy@toddcstacy

Wasting no time, @GovernorKayIvey has called a special primary election for the AL-1, AL-2, AL-6 & AL-7 under the legislatively-enacted map from 2023. Those are the districts that changed back. Election will be Tuesday, August 11. No runoff. #alpolitics

@truthbyhaig @RepAdamMorgan To fix the problems you mentioned first you have to remove the ones causing the problems. You can't fix anything with the same people who let it happened to begin with. Redrawing the maps will allow voters to choose the politicians instead of maps that divide us and our votes.

@SpudmanWP @TheBigRedskull @jmart Some cities/counties happen to be minority-majority (especially in the South). What's the point of splitting them up? Exactly. It's all about political power for Republicans.

Did you not read the decision? Do you not understand how using race as a determining factor in districting is unconstitutional? You also cannot say that they are needed so they can be represented by their own color because THEY don't even believe that. How so you ask, they vote more whites into office from these districts than blacks. It's always been about political power for the Dems, not race, or did you forget "I'll have them ni**ers voting Dem for 200 years"?

@SpudmanWP @TheBigRedskull @jmart Majority-minority districts are NOT illegal. But MAGAs are using the ruling to destroy all of them and enact partisan gerrymandered maps.

@TheBigRedskull @jmart It could have been "veto proof", made by an "independent" commission, etc. I'd have to look at each state specifically, but with MA it was a combination of pre-SCOTUS ruling on the use of "majority-minority districts" combined with a strong Dem majority in the legislature.

@VoteHub The new map is less gerrymandered for sure, and the SCOTUS decision striking down racial gerrymanders unconstitutional makes it required to revisit these maps. A step towards fairness.

@MittBloomberg Ironically, it means that the Democratic base will only become more radicalized and the Overton window will simply shift further to the left.

The United States is now essentially becoming Hungary. Democrats will likely need at least a 4-point popular vote margin just to win the House of Representatives. Combined with everything we’ve seen during Trump’s presidency and the actions of corrupt judges, it’s becoming increasingly clear that the U.S. has already turned into an illiberal state. Of course, it must be made clear that this democratic backsliding has been driven by the Republican Party and its members — a party that has become fully fascistic. Anyone who genuinely believes in democracy should only have one option at the ballot box: vote blue, no matter who, just as in Hungary the democratic choice was to vote for Tisza.

@BAYCBoshi @NewsWire_US The Supreme Court issued a ruling on section 2 of the VRA which made it legal for Tennessee and Florida to redistrict the way they did. Virginia on the other hand violated a state law. Completely different contexts.

Virginia violated the process for amending the Virginia Constitution to try to pass a partisan gerrymander. If those other states also violate their state constitutions while trying to pass similar measures, they will also be restricted. That’s how our system works. Hope this helps. Also, the idea that VA Dems being prevented from passing an absurdly partisan gerrymander that would give them 10 out of 11 seats in an evenly split state is a bad sign for our democracy is particularly dumb.
Jim Acosta@Acosta

Trump gets to redraw maps in his states but the Democrats cannot do the same? What is happening to our democracy?
