How about cutting Universal Credit for people assessed as unfit for work by 50 percent and attempting to withdraw daily living PIP from millions of disabled people?

Very different circumstances I know but now the cuts to Welfare payments of the long term sick & disabled are kicking in, we will be seeing stories like this a lot more. As people lose their ability to cover rent short falls & evictions start kicking in, more will face eviction.

Important context they never give you: some of those scary historical “high benefit” figures included people with profound disabilities needing round-the-clock support through the Independent Living Fund. I saw a screenshot of earlier today who reckons that people on benefits shouldn't be allowed to go to pubs and other recreational places (I wish I had taken a screenshot myself now. A few years ago, she also thought that disabled people could just "start a business from Home" as if it's as simple as clicking your fingers together (which ironically enough I can't do)

The real scandal is not that people need welfare. The scandal is that someone can work for decades, pay taxes all their life, become disabled or ill, lose everything, and then discover the system they paid into no longer protects them when they need it.

This is exactly how divide and conquer works. Yes, severely disabled people and families needing round-the-clock support are being failed. Nobody should be pretending otherwise. But that failure is not because another disabled person gets PIP. PIP was never meant to replace social care, fund 24/7 care packages, or prop up a collapsing care system. The real issue? Years of underfunded social care, councils cutting support, unpaid carers at breaking point, and governments expecting benefits to patch gaps they created. Disabled people should not be pushed into arguing over who is “disabled enough” while the actual system failures go untouched. Shame on all "progressive" politicians who continue to remain silent as lies and distortions about disability benefits have led to disabled people regularly being abused and harassed in the street for using a disabled parking space. Useless- all of them.
