I'm a fan of the Hindu creepypasta god who predates the entire religion, looks nothing like any other member of the pantheon, and whose name translates to "Lord of the Universe"

Por ocasião do aniversário da morte de Sebastião Salgado (1944-2025), ocorrida em 23 de maio de 2025, tuitamos 10 belas fotos publicadas então pela BBC Brasil (tinyurl.com/yaripo). A matéria divulgava o livro e a exposição resultantes do projeto "Amazônia". Sigam o fio! 🧵

Happy Birthday to my grandmother, we are blessed to celebrate her 95th birthday today. That is a photo of her when she was 17 walking into her dad’s igloo.

I follow Mesoamerican history/archeology I agree there's a superficially similarity between Bronze age Chinese and Maya art, but for people seriously proposing they had contact, remember they existed in totally different time periods Distinctly Maya art doesn't show up till around ~400BC, which as far as I know is many centuries after Bronze Age China produced this kind of art. There's also no reputable evidence of China (or Europeans, or Africans etc) having contact with Mesoamerica prior to the 16th century It's really just a coincidence, you can draw similar comparisons IMO between Maya and Khmer architecture, or Minoan (pic 1 and 2) and Aztec or Teotihuacano (pic 3 and 4) architecture (the timeline doesn't match up for those either, FYI) (Also, "Central America" in an Anthropology and Archeology context generally refers to the area BELOW Mesoamerica, and art from that region doesn't really resemble Bronze Age Chinese art, it's Maya art and some other Mesoamerican art that does)

I’m an Amerindian academic by trade technically. Many of them were. The Spanish were in open awe of the stuff they made. The ace against natives was diseases, and for the U.S. mass importing people by the millions to make any native victory unable to be sustained.

There's a condition that affects Amerindian academics, at a certain point it's unavoidable to admit that the Indians were simply ~worse~ than the Euros in most ways (metallurgy, agriculture, religion) & were directly outcompeted. It drives some of them to extreme self-hatred.

@nobleguanche @griefofppl Mexicans want to talk down to Chicanos about being uncultured like how Europeans talk down to Americans. Mexicans just somehow forget that Chicanos can drive down to Mexico in a shitty beater meanwhile an American has to cross the Atlantic to experience Europe.

@griefofppl Mexican infighting is so funny. To Americans you're all spics, doesn't matter if you were born north or south of the rio grande.

Not really, because the "Aztec" stuff you posted is really more pop culture visual tropes and stereotypes of Aztec and Mesoamerican fashion It's not really what their actual fashion, ornamentation etc looked like. (Image credits listed within pic 1 and 3, pic 2 by @Zotzcomic , pic 4 by @ohs688 )
