Should I make my next game in @defold ? Only thing putting me off is am a little worried about configuring the java dependencies for CLI building like I am used to (I love to make custom tooling and scripts for deployment, and prefer that to the built in editor tools in engines).

All these discussions about Bun's Zig vs Rust implementation, and in my previous tests Node was still still the fastest choice. I guess we'll see later if they manage to actually speed it up... 🤷‍♂️

@becsoda @BeanJuiceStudio I don’t fully agree, you still need to tell it what to give you and decide on an art style and atmosphere for the game. Doesn’t seem much different than the Art Director of a major studio probably not doing any of the art but steering the overall vibe of the game.

@bonepixel @BeanJuiceStudio because coding is a utilitarian means to achieve someone's artistic vision. if you're having AI do the coding AND the art, that means you're uninspired with no creative vision - in which case why the fuck are you trying to make a game.

I need to rant for a second. Randy recently released a game called Terrafactor. 3 of the 5 negative reviews are upset because AI was used to assist with programming. None of them mention anything about the gameplay. People who leave reviews like this are sad and pathetic.

With the newest Defold 1.12.4 empty #HTML5 project is now 1.06 MB. 📉 Small builds mean faster downloads, quicker loading, better web/mobile distribution, and less overhead before your actual game content is even added. You can strip out parts of the engine further, if those are not needed, with a single App Manifest file. Compared with empty projects from Unity and Godot, that difference is hard to miss. And Defold still gives you a complete editor, Lua scripting, 2D and 3D customisable rendering, physics, GUI, particles, hot reload, native extensions, cross-platform deployment, and more. #Defold #gameengine #gamedev #indiedev
