To all those people saying "it's really not a big deal" about the Mets giving out number 8. That's foolish. It's not a big deal to YOU, but history is important. No idea why the number hasn't been officially hung for Gary Carter. The team wore a patch, and had the same logo on the outfield wall for more than a few seasons. We hoped it would have been a surprise number retirement during this years 40 year anniversary ceremony of the 1986 champs. That's probably not happening now. If it is, that was a huge blunder yesterday. Anyway... the team took it back and Morabito will rock 55 going forward.

@MarkCHealey @HowieRose 8 is not retired and Mets had plenty of time to do so. Everyone should stop whining including @HowieRose. Plenty of other 86 players numbers aren’t retired that had a significant impact on that team as well.

Here’s what likely happened. Nick Morabito or his agent asked for #8 because that’s what he was wearing at Syracuse. Someone in the #Mets organization who didn’t know about Carter said “Ok” Then @HowieRose came on here and questioned it like a gentleman, and perhaps one of the reporters told someone in the Mets traveling party, and the situation changed. Either way, it has been rectified.

I am aware of the disturbing incident targeting worshippers during Friday prayers outside the Baitul Mamur Mosque in Brooklyn, where a man praying was struck with an egg.
