Nibe Limited’s Vayu Astra-1 Loitering Munition Anti-Personal carried out first NCNC demo successfully at Pokhran Range, Rajasthan, with 10 kg warhead in single attempt, successfully hitting the target at 100 km with CEP less than 1 m with abort attack and reattack capability of the LM. The LM is based on an Israeli loitering munition.
The team carried out Anti Armour (Anti-Tank) night strike using- IR camera and LM successfully hit the target within the 2 m CEP in a single attempt with capability of handing over the control from GCS to Forward Control Segment 70 km away was successfully demonstrated.
At Joshimath (Malari) Uttarakhand Vayu Astra-1 LM had been successfully demonstrated endurance flying more than 90 minutes high altitude loitering and endurance completed at more than 14000 Ft height and LM is recovery for next flight after completion of mission.

Let's clear the confusion here. Army should have granted Approval in principal for them to start work on the concept, that would have assured the requirement which does not assures order, that distinction is necessary. After that they could have worked on the proof of concept, putting their own fund and risk, after which it would have gone under trails and if passed then the army would have orderd them. So there is no garuntee of orders only assurance. It's a low risk path but not the only path. Army should have supported it, Approval in Principal could have been granted, which was not. So that was a mistake from Army's end.
But having enough trust on the concept one company can go on an independent approach, which I belive Solar can with the revenue they are going to make.
These systems have good export potential too.

Thanks for highlighting the issue, legally they should have produced the proof of concept, but still could have been supported. I am sure with the money they will get from fulfilling orders from making Pinaka and other components which are DRDO's R&D, they will have enough money to fund their own.

I may be bit harsh on this but under Make 2, Solar was supposed to make prototypes themselves which they never made, so their proposal can be best called as PPT. Btw, DRDO ofcourse gets funds for R&D, has only able to develop 120KM rockets, so 150 & 300KM rockets will take 5 yrs

Why does urgency emerge only after an operation or crisis? Solar Industries had submitted proposals under the Make-II category back in 2022 for high-mobility long-range precision rocket systems; Maheshwarastra-1 with a 150 km range and Maheshwarastra-2 with a 250 km range. If such capabilities suddenly become critical today, then why were these proposals not pursued seriously then? Three years is a sufficient timeline to develop and mature such systems indigenously. This reflects a deeper issue of long-term capability planning and strategic vision. If the requirement was foreseeable and modern battlefield trends clearly indicated it was, then delaying indigenous development only increases future dependence and emergency procurement pressure. Calling this “unnecessary controversy” misses the actual point. The concern is about institutional foresight, timely decision-making, and whether India wants to build capabilities proactively or only react after operational gaps become visible.
