Excited to announce the publication of the ESID registry outcomes of 30,000 patients living with an IEI. The UKPID registry (ukpid-registry.co.uk) was proud to contribute to this vital project. Available at (open access) - tinyurl.com/esid-registry

Fascinating. NHSE have assessed worst case scenario of GP Collective Action. Stopping non-contractual work could cost the NHS £570m in the first 4 months. Extrapolated - @NHSEngland have just admitted General Practice is doing £1.7billion of non-contractual work every year

Competition ratios in 🇬🇧 released The total lack of thought around jobs vs performative “oh, we will create new med school places” is playing out as predicted This is not a mistake These concerns were raised by myself & others *pre-COVID* I’d ask you to come to your own conclusions about why they are doing this* *spoilers - it’s not for your benefit or patient care #medtwitter #MedEd medical.hee.nhs.uk/medical-traini…

While I don’t wish to ignore the poor experiences adults have faced in our emergency care system (pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/39084692/) I’m grateful that it’s now recognised children’s experiences have been steadily declining and we need to re-focus & re-prioritise. bbc.co.uk/news/articles/…

Vaccines account for 40% of the decline in infant mortality over the last 50 years. Infant mortality rates have plummeted over the last 50 years. Globally, they’ve fallen by over two-thirds, from around 10% in 1974 to less than 3% today. A recent study — published in The Lancet by Andrew Shattock and an international team of researchers — estimates that 40% of this decline has been driven by increased access to crucial vaccines. The chart shows the actual reduction in infant mortality rates with vaccination (in blue) and the researchers’ estimates for a hypothetical scenario in which vaccines wouldn’t have been rolled out (in red). Based on these figures, vaccines are estimated to have saved 150 million children over the last 50 years. (This Daily Data Insight was written by @_HannahRitchie.)

The national service nonsense does give me the opportunity to tweet one of my favourite recent bits of polling when Ipsos actually ran the famous "Yes Minister" questions as a randomised experiment, and showed that it worked.

It appears that TfL has published the latest figures for how much different embassies owe in Congestion Charge payments. America owes Britain £14m. Togo owes us £40.

Your function is to determine whether a doctor's ability to do their job is impaired, not whatever the fuck this is #defundthegmc
GMC@gmcuk

Today, an independent tribunal of the Medical Practitioners Tribunal Service has suspended Dr Sarah Benn’s registration for a period of five months. Dr Benn was referred to a tribunal because in 2022, she breached several court orders, which amounted to contempt of court, and as a result, she received a custodial sentence. This referral was not about Dr Benn’s right to protest about climate change. Our website has more information about this case and our media statement: gmc-uk.org/news/news-arch… Like all citizens, doctors have the right to express their personal opinions on any issue, including climate change. There is nothing in our guidance to prevent doctors from doing so, or from exercising their right to lobby government and campaign on issues, including taking part in protests. The threat of climate change is very real and we understand why this case has created strong interest from doctors and the public. However, our fitness to practise investigations consider cases which are referred to us and where doctors have broken the law, not their motivations for doing so. It’s not the role of regulators to determine UK law - that is a matter for parliament. Patients and the public rightly have a high degree of trust in doctors and that trust can be eroded if doctors repeatedly do not comply with the law.

This is completely out of order for @gmcuk bbc.co.uk/news/articles/… if it fits the ‘rules’ the rules are wrong and must change. Government has hugely restricted the right to protest & there is no chance of this reducing public confidence, it’s a matter of conscience.
