Memory overcommit is confusing enough on its own. Add a kernel bug, and you're in for a rough time. I wrote this blog post to explain both. I tried to keep it technically deep, but still easy to follow. Let me know if you have any questions or feedback.

We've been building managed Postgres for fifteen years. Across all of them, one setting remained constant: strict memory overcommit. Then, a three-character Linux kernel bug hit us. ubicloud.com/blog/postgresq…

I am excited to share our partnership between @UbicloudHQ and @ClickHouseDB. And it’s much more than a logo swap. What this means in practice: ClickHouse is launching managed Postgres, powered by Ubicloud. It is fast, tightly integrated with ClickHouse for analytics; with native capabilities to sync and query data across data stores. What makes this different is how we’re doing it. This isn’t a thin integration. The ClickHouse team is building directly with us and contributing to the Ubicloud open source project with shared code, shared goals, and daily engineering collaboration. There’s also history here. Our teams built and operated Postgres before at Microsoft, Citus Data, and earlier Heroku Postgres. When ClickHouse looked for a Postgres partner, they needed a team that had already done this multiple times before. If you’re building systems that need fast transactions + real-time analytics (including AI workloads), this removes a lot of complexity. Thrilled about what this means for Ubicloud and ClickHouse users, and the Ubicloud project. Blog post is live, link in the comments.

Excited to announce our partnership with @ClickHouseDB Managed Postgres, powered by Ubicloud, is coming to the ClickHouse platform. Postgres handles transactions on local NVMe, while ClickHouse delivers fast analytics. ubicloud.com/blog/clickhous…

We implemented burstable instances using Control Groups v2 (cgroups v2), a Linux kernel feature that helps manage resource usage. As an open source cloud, we’re committed to transparently sharing everything we do. We had four key takeaways and talked about them in our blog post. ubicloud.com/blog/building-…

@ThatTimTaylor @UbicloudHQ Hi @ThatTimTaylor, lead architect of Ubicloud Postgres is here. It is definitely a possibility, but we don't have immediate plans. We prioritize based on demand and we don't have enough demand for Asia/Pacific region at the moment.

@UbicloudHQ Any plans to have managed pg support in the Asia-Pacific region? Ideally Australia or perhaps Singapore (since I think Hetzner only has Singapore as an option)

For a personal project you can just spin up SQL Express or PostgreSQL docker container on a Hetzner VPS. Can always move it to a big 3 provider if it grows. Most personal project are low volume. Might be different for yourself as you might get traction quicker than 99% of side projects would

@umurc @TheEmericHunter @psankar @UbicloudHQ About Singapore region; we run our infra on Hetzner Bare Metal, which is not available in Singapore. That said, we are considering using VMs directly. This would enable us for Singapore region, but it is at least a few months away at this point. Depends on the demand mostly.

Thank you for the kind words! Timely question on K8s, we just enabled managed K8s in alpha (behind feature flag). It is not ready for prime time yet, but we'd love any early feedback. If you're up for testing it, could you DM me with your email, and we will add it to your account (with free credits for testing)?

@Hetzner_Online the only thing I need to never think about any other provider is a managed database solution. That's the only thing I would prefer not to manage myself
