These two images were taken by @astro_reid only minutes apart. The stark difference is the result of camera settings. In the first, a longer shutter speed let in much more light from Earth, while the shorter shutter speed in the second emphasizes our planet's nighttime glow.

Even in darkness, we glow. In this image of Earth taken by the Artemis II crew, we can see the electric lights of human activity. In the lower right, sunlight illuminates the limb of the planet.

Any “American violations of international law will set a negative precedent for future Chinese aggression against Taiwan” argument is obviously ridiculous for one very simple reason: China has never seen, and will never see, any decision on Taiwan as bound by international law. Legally speaking, it can only see it as a purely domestic matter, and the vast majority of other countries, including the U.S., don’t even expressly disagree. The only impact that American actions, whether against Venezuela or any other country, will ever have in this particular sphere are purely realpolitik ones. Whatever your normative position might be, please do leave the battered corpse of international law out of this…
