Pleased to be rejoining the civil service as Investment and AI adviser in DSIT. As an exited founder and angel investor in over a hundred startups I’m hopeful I can help make Britain the place for tech and AI. It’s a part time role as I will still be carrying on my work at Oxford University and on the board of the ALB of the DfE Oak National Academy. This government has made great strides on AI and tech. Excited to get going and help!

Built an app to generate bedtime stories for my daughter. Then had Claude Code review the codebase and build an interactive learning experience into it so I could understand how the app works e2e. Coding agents are without a doubt the best tools to learn how software works.

The UK has more Unicorns 🦄 and $100M+ revenue Thoroughbreds 🐎 than France, Germany, Sweden, and the Netherlands combined.
Yet, the narrative is often one of economic decline. @cape’s latest piece in @ObserverUK UK argues that the UK is sitting on a massive, underpriced long-term asset: its innovation economy.
With $21bn in VC funding this year and a massive push into Deep Tech, the "gloomy sentiment" simply doesn't match the data.
Is the UK doing enough to appreciate and support its tech?
