Oregon demands billions in new taxes from citizens, but its management of basic functions frankly sucks. Take the DMV. oregoncapitalchronicle.com/2026/05/08/ore… Almost daily, I get emails announcing which of Oregon DMV’s offices have closed for the day. Last year alone, DMV closed offices for the day 92 different times. Washington state offers a host of DMV like functions at private retailers like vehicle registration, title transfers and license plates. Oregon could do the same. The latest DMV closure is tiny Canyonville in one of the rural areas Tina Kotek doesn’t give a damn about. They’re down to one day a week, Tuesday 9 to 5 and they no longer do drive testing. Now, do the math. DMV lost less than 10 percent of its staff last year after the legislature refused to pony up billions in new taxes. DMV’s parent agency, ODOT, has almost 5-thousand full-time employees. Shifting just over 1 percent from pushing paper in Salem to ODOT’s most visible public face…DMV …would fill all the vacancies. But that would demonstrate competent management by Tina Kotek. Good luck with that. I hope voters send Queen Tina a pink slip…so service can come back online for citizens.

Talked with some coaches over the last few nights about rankings. It's not our product; we kind of just do it for fun, since we thought others would be interested as well. One good recommendation I wanted to highlight: find where others have successfully gotten to Omaha. Below are two graphs: 1) shows that every team in the FF for the CWS in the last 5 years was >= 65% in xFIP and >= 73% in wRAA. Additionally, all but 2 teams (Louisville & Coastal '25), were >= 75% xFIP and >= 80% wRAA. Lastly, 16/20 teams (removing NC State '21 & TCU '23) , and all national champions, were all >=85th xFIP and 80% wRAA. For the last one, there are currently only 18 teams that fit that distinction. We can do this on any stat, so let us know if you want to try another.
