@jjh_esq @cabsav456 If im reading this correctly, in 30 years from now if we find evidence that Turkey harbored 9/11 terrorists at one point we could start war with them on that basis without congressional authorization?

@cabsav456 I’m a person who can read the word “aided” or “harbored.” And read the multiple District Court decisions that found Iran harbored multiple 9/11 terrorists after 9/11. But, this meme never fails:

The War Powers Resolution deadline lapsed on May 1, yet the mission continues. The administration's claim that a temporary ceasefire "resets" the 60-day clock is a legal fiction that stretches the statute beyond recognition. The WPR was designed to prevent exactly this: unilateral executive action without congressional authorization. Calling a truce a "reset" doesn’t change the reality for troops still deployed and operations still underway. The law forces a choice after 60 days: authorize the mission or end it. But Congress can dodge that choice by doing nothing. If this mission is justified, Congress should put their names on a vote. If it won't, it's enabling the same constitutional bypass the White House is making.

@GruntingWiglet @cabsav456 @openshutter21 Its opening pandora's box from my perspective. I simply don't trust the government to not overreach. Im resigned to the fact that my bank or CC co can track spending habits, freeze funds, or monitor transactions but if I dont like my providers I can switch.

@caseytalent @cabsav456 @openshutter21 Have credit and debit cards (which you use regularly) been the "death knell" to privacy? In some ways perhaps, but if you knew how these CBDCs will work (offline mode, etc) you'd know they're more private than what you already use.

Can the House stop doing stupid shit? They just passed a 3-year FISA 702 extension... without any warrant requirements. Even though a huge majority of Americans are demanding them to end this warrantless surveillance of American citizens. The House knows a clean FISA extension is unpopular. So they slap on totally unrelated bills to make it easier to swallow. Last week the SAVE Act, this week a crypto/CBDC ban. As Chad says, this is a poison pill for the Senate, and they know it. But Mike Johnson punts the bill that he knows is DOA over to the Senate anyway, then sends the House on freaking RECESS. Now allll these House members will sit at home complaining about the Senate not doing anything. Again. Watch. Completely dysfunctional.
Chad Pergram@ChadPergram

There is a distinct possibility that the nation’s most-important intelligence gathering tool lapses just after midnight tonight because the House and Senate aren’t on the same page. Authorization for FISA Section 702 expires at 12:00:01 am et Friday. National security advocates are apoplectic that Congress could let the program lapse, exposing the nation to the possibility of a terrorism attack during a heightened threat environment. The House approved a three-year extension yesterday. But it included a ban on a digital currency to be managed by the federal government. That’s a poison pill for the Senate. The Senate could pass a 45-day extension. But there are signals that Sen. Ron Wyden (D-OR) could object due to privacy concerns. Both the House and Senate would have to approve a bridge to avoid the program from legally ceasing. However, both chambers are set to leave today for a recess until mid-May. That said, the court which oversees FISA says the program continues on paper. However, telecommunications firms which provide information to the government could be reluctant to comply without an authorization of FISA by Congress.

@cabsav456 @openshutter21 I want nothing to do with a CBDC system which would be the deth knell to any remaining semblance of privacy. Very different from crypto btw.. centralized vs decentralized. Reform FISA and take CBDC off the table.

Right? Un.friggen.real. is like my default state of mind these days Yes, any change will have to be sent back. I swear that's WHY they keep doing this (giving them a bill, then going on recess right before the deadline) because they keep trying to force the Senate's hand. It's insane. I will say I am completely ignorant about crypto. Is the CBDC part of this bad? Lol

@EricSpracklen Haven't you heard? MAGA is now pro-government weaponization, pro-overregulation, pro-big government spending, pro-government equity stakes in private companies, pro-censoring speech we dislike, pro-FISA. And MAGA is pro-corruption now too. Consistency is for losers!!!

Thomas Massie and Lauren Boebert just declared war on the mass surveillance state. “FISA 702 is just the tip of the iceberg … ” “There have been so many erosions of our Fourth Amendment right to privacy.” “The Bank Secrecy Act, the Right to Financial Privacy Act, the Patriot Act … all of them created so-called loopholes in the Constitution.” “The Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act … is used to go after Americans.” “I’ve been in a SCIF last week where I saw two secret rulings … of how the government has created additional loopholes to spy on you that I’m not even allowed to tell you.” “And finally, the third-party doctrine.” “It’s based on a ruling of the Supreme Court … I think it was a bad ruling, but it’s been expanded in its interpretation to include things like doctor’s appointment records, bank records, phone records … Flock cameras.” “Imagine … that you turn AI loose on these databases.” “Now, there’s virtually nothing the government can’t know about you without a warrant.” “That is why we’ve created … the Surveillance Accountability Act.” “It closes these loopholes that I’ve explained.” “And more importantly, it creates a private right of action.” “It’s almost impossible to sue federal government employees if they infringe on your constitutional rights.” “The second half of this bill gives you the right to sue the government employee.” “If they infringe on your constitutional rights, they could be privately and personally sued for that.” @RepThomasMassie @MassieforKY @laurenboebert

This is such a dumb argument. Every president in my lifetime has repeatedly said Iran can't have nukes; no one is denying Trump said it too. The issue is that he campaigned on "no new wars", specifically in the Middle East. Yet he launched us into a broad conflict in the Middle East even after claiming the nuclear sites were "completely obliterated" in June 2025 and that Iran's nuclear program was set back several years. To this day, the public has not been shown the clear imminent threat to the U.S. that justified this war. Under the Constitution and under the War Powers Resolution, the President cannot unilaterally start a war without Congressional approval unless there is an immediate threat to our nation. By bypassing Congress without providing that evidence, he is violating the separation of powers. That lack of transparency, combined with the total reversal on his non-interventionist/America First stance, is why people are frustrated.

I don't think people fully grasp the impact of Trump constantly attacking Pope Leo XIV. As Catholics, we believe the Pope is the supreme moral authority on Earth. Forcing believers to choose between their President and their Faith is a dangerous (and stupid) game. Does he want to alienate the entire Catholic base? I don't understand.

We have not stopped the flow of weapons to Ukraine. They are being sold instead of donated. But the volume and quality of weapons has increased, as has intelligence sharing for targets inside Russia which Biden refused to share. Trump is doing more for Ukraine than Biden ever did. Facts.

"I'll pardon everyone who has come within 200 feet of the Oval". This is why we should not test the limits of federal overreach or executive power. Biden tested the boundaries of the pardon power by issuing preemptive pardons to Fauci, some of the J6 committee, & family members. Now, Trump is going to exploit that precedent to the nth degree. Not to be dramatic, but we have essentially created a system with zero accountability & have obliterated the rule of law.

So the current OPM under this administration is attempting to extract personally identifiable medical & pharmacy data of 8 million Americans — including federal workers, retirees, and their families — and build it into a massive federal database. The irony is that this "Health Claims Data Warehouse" was pushed under Obama's ACA in 2010. It was rightfully criticized by conservatives then as government overreach & a violation of the patient-physician relationship. They fought it, and it never went into effect. Now the current administration is using the exact same legal arguments Obama's OPM used, claiming a "mandatory right" to extract identifiable claims for "oversight" purposes. This raises massive HIPAA compliance issues and is a total reversal on the principles of medical privacy & limited government. Insurance carriers are already refusing to turn over records because they believe it's illegal to do so, but OPM is fighting back. The courts need to shut this down for good.
