On this week’s tête-à-tête, we turn our attention to the Zimbabwean economy, the deepening crisis, the structural drivers behind it, and the practical pathways we propose for rebuilding a functional, democratic developmental state. The tête-à-tête program is designed to generate conversations of national importance: interrogating policy choices, elevating youth voices, and advancing evidence-based solutions rooted in transparency, accountability, and economic justice. At a time when our political discourse is increasingly poisoned by sloganeering, violence, and the normalisation of authoritarian behaviour, it becomes even more vital to defend the space for ideas, data, and sober national reflection. Zimbabwe’s crisis is not inevitable. It is a product of governance failure, elite predation, and the systematic erosion of state capacity. But it is also a crisis that can be resolved through collective vision, institutional renewal, and citizen-driven debate. Join the conversation and share your thoughts. Have arrived in South Africa for the G20 Summit, held for the first time on African soil- a historic moment to reflect on South Africa’s presidency of the G20 and the opportunities it presented for our continent. Africa must add its uncompromising voice to the contradictions shaping today’s world: the crisis of multilateralism, the deepening debt trap, the worsening climate emergency, and the widening inequalities that continue to marginalise the Global South. This summit is more than a gathering of leaders; it is a call for Africa to assert its agency, articulate its interests, and demand a global order that is just, democratic, and humane. Looking forward to adding our voice. Africa is our home!
