I've said before that ship captains during the age of discovery were some of the most impressive human beings to ever live. We have trouble appreciating just how unimaginably great these men were. They had to play the role of navigator, cartographer, astronomer, logistics manager, military commander, judge, police captain, diplomat, CEO, recruiter, accountant and governor, all at the same time, and all under extreme duress, out in the middle of the ocean, cut off from the rest of the world where the penalty for one wrong decision was the death of everyone on board. These are some of the most brilliant and gifted human beings the world has ever known. Nobody on Earth today can come close to matching them. They had a level of both skill and physical courage that just doesn't exist on the planet today.

Christopher Columbus is the ultimate IQ test. You immediately know that someone is a retarded halfwit if they start screeching some nonsense about how Columbus was a genocidal maniac or whatever. Intelligent students of history understand that he is one of the great men of western civilization. This is an awesome move by the White House.

Um yeah, most people join the military for practical reasons. A smaller portion is people who love military stuff (me). Another small portion is family tradition. The smallest portion is for patriotic reasons, and that's mostly after some kind of event like 9/11.

@bowtiedmeathead I hate when people claim they like ice cream but have never spent a mortgage on a commercial ice cream machine and a pantry full of stabilizers.

If I had a choice between potato chips and ice cream, I would 100 percent take ice cream. I like potato chips, but I fucking love ice cream. Especially in the summer months. I would straight fucking rob and murder for a Dairy Queen. Like, just fucking go guns blazing inside that bitch. Have you ever had 4% thick and extra creamy yogurt? It’s as close to ice cream as you can get. It’s thick and tastes like really close to ice cream. I love it. I eat a cup of that every night. Siggy’s and Skier are two of my favorite brands. Chobani is my go to during the day. Hardly has any sugar in it. It's got a little bit of sweetness and only about 2 or 3 grams of sugar in the whole thing. It’s phenomenal. I love that stuff.

I used to be entirely in the camp that said you should kick your kids out at 18 and force them to live independently and make their own way in the world. I don’t feel that way at all anymore. I want all my kids to live with us until they get married. Even after they’re married, if they want to live on our property, or close by, my wife and I would love that. The important thing is to teach your kids responsibility, which we’re doing. They need to contribute and help around the house, which all of our kids do from a very young age. Provided you aren’t raising ungrateful useless moochers, why kick them out? Why drive them away from your family home? I don’t see the point in it anymore. I actually like my kids and like being around them. Maybe they’ll all end up scattered to the wind. But I’d prefer to keep the family together. Why wouldn’t I?

When COVID shut everything down I started building a tiki hut out of old wooden pallets and pieces of wood I’d been collecting in my barn for years. Most of the wood was free. Just pallets I pulled apart one board at a time. Somewhere along the way I fell deep into 1940s–60s American tiki culture… collecting mugs, menus, old recipes, the whole thing. Soon friends and family were coming by, neighbors pulling up in boats. I’d make the margaritas. Strange time… but honestly some pretty great memories. 🏝️🍹
