Your ground beef costs nearly 20% more than a year ago because US cattle herds hit a 75-year low and ranchers can’t find workers. A New Zealand dairy farm kid convinced Peter Thiel that GPS cow collars are the fix. Thiel just valued the company at $2 billion.
The company is Halter. Craig Piggott grew up watching his parents work 100-hour weeks on dairy farms in New Zealand’s Waikato region. He barely scraped into engineering school (scored 254 points, needed 250), landed at Rocket Lab, then quit before their first rocket launch to build smart collars for cows. He was 22.
The tech sounds ridiculous until you see the numbers. Each solar-powered collar collects 6,000 data points per minute on location, health, fertility, and grazing patterns. Farmers draw virtual fences on a phone app. Cows learn to respond to sound and vibration cues within 7 to 10 days, moving between pastures without a single physical fence post. Halter’s US customers have created 11,000 miles of virtual fencing so far, roughly the perimeter of the continental United States, saving an estimated $220 million in fencing costs. Physical fencing runs about $20,000 per mile to install and maintain.
The timing is what makes this a $2 billion company and not a $200 million one. The US cattle industry generates over $1 trillion a year but it’s cracking. The USDA counted 27.6 million beef cows as of January 2026, still declining. Fifteen thousand American farms vanished in 2025. Over half of US ranchers are older than 55. The labor crunch has only gotten worse under tighter immigration enforcement. This month, 3,800 workers walked off the job at a JBS plant in Colorado (one of the country’s biggest beef processors). Cattle slaughter is down 10% year over year.
Founders Fund actually first invested in Halter’s $7 million Series A back in 2018. They’re not showing up late. The valuation doubled from $1 billion to $2 billion in nine months. Icehouse Ventures, one of Halter’s earliest backers, put in $100,000 at the seed stage. Their total stake is now worth $409 million. The fund’s CEO told the New Zealand Herald today that at Halter’s current growth rate, it will surpass Fonterra (New Zealand’s $5.9 billion dairy cooperative) in value within 11 quarters.
600,000 cattle are wearing Halter collars across three countries. The “cowgorithm” is a real, trademarked AI algorithm that trains each animal individually. Ranchers report saving 20 to 40 hours a week. And the kid who barely got into college was just named New Zealand’s Innovator of the Year.

JUST IN: AI cow collar startup Halter raises at $2,000,000,000.00 valuation, uses proprietary “cowgorithm” to herd cattle.

You forced Obamacare through 16 years ago while Republicans warned it would make premiums skyrocket?
“Yes Dave.”
And then premiums skyrocketed?
“Yes Dave.”
Then under Biden you passed additional subsidies to pay for these high premiums?
“Yes Dave.”
And now these subsidies are largely corporate welfare driven by fraud?
“Yes Dave.”
And now you’re shutting down the government to continue these subsidies?
“That’s correct Dave.”

Born and raised in Vegas. Tourism has been dropping for years because Las Vegas in't cheap anymore. $40/day parking, $50 resort fee, $13 resort fee tax and now you $100 a night room is $200 a night. $15 beers and $25 cocktails anywhere in the casino. Food options start at $50 per person. Microwaves, fridges, coffee makers have been removed from the rooms, but you can rent them for a daily fee. No more "free drinks". You have to gamble a set amount before your bartender can comp your drink. Cocktail waitress department has been gutted to a skeleton crew so if you happen to see one it will be 20-30 minutes before you get your drink. Valet staff and baggage staff have been gutted to skeleton crews so you will wait. Some hotels on the strip are doing away with valet and baggage altogether. Instead it's self parking only (which costs $20/day) and they have baggage carts for rent for $15. The front desk staff has been gutted so you will stand and wait an hour or more just to check in.
Is MGM hurting for money? No they have made record profits year over year the last 3 years. According to MGM executives Vegas is no longer about hospitality and service. "We are a sports and convention town now." The rooms will fill up no matter how shitty the service is. And they can always raise room rates to makeup for lack of reservations.
There is barely any hotel staff. Security is no where to be found (because their staff has also been gutted). People are beat up or robbed in the main entrance or in the valet and security shows up 15 minutes later and writes a report.
Also Democrats have made Las Vegas LA 2.0. There are fentanyl zombies everywhere. They come into the casinos and yell or assault guests (security shows up 15 minutes after). Everyone smokes weed everywhere. While you are waiting in valet with your family for your car there will be a group of super cool people smoking blunts and blowing the smoke at your kids and laughing (security is no where to be found but will write a report when the show up 15 minutes after they are called if you want). DUI related deaths record high year over year be cause DUI laws are a joke here (once again thanks Democrats).
When Vegas was a bargain to entice people to come and gamble it was always packed. Now the business model is to have as little staff as possible, have less guests than before, and just squeeze and nickel and dime them to make-up for the lower volume. Off the strip casinos and hotels are doing much better than the Strip because they are more like Old Vegas.
