We have the best hay guy, but he has bills of his own to pay and now we have to pay him before he will deliver more. While we are also floundering, we can’t blame him for that. It boggles the mind that we are on the eve of yet another Kentucky Oaks and Kentucky Derby — the greatest two days in horse racing in North America — and we are significantly struggling to feed these souls. None of them were talented enough to make the big dance (ok, Vivian was but she lost her shoes out of the gate and was never a factor AND ended up in a kill pen anyway) but their lives still matter. Since yesterday we received $270 more dollars toward our hay goal (thank you Ray and Mary!), which we need to meet ASAP or we won’t have anything to feed them. We set the goal at $6,000 again because we also have the farrier and feed (Abner lost a shoe again, farrier had to postpone until next week because of weather) to buy. After yesterday we are at $637 raised so far, leaving us with $5,363 to go! We are always so grateful for everyone’s support. But the Friday before the Kentucky Derby is your day. For one day a year we honor you a little extra and mark it as the day you made it to the big dance and ran under the Twin Spires in the Kentucky Oaks with the entire world watching. You didn’t win that day, but it doesn’t matter. You made it and then gave the industry a bunch of beautiful babies after. You did more than your share for the industry, I just wish the industry did more for you. You were our first girl here and now you are our oldest. You are our matriarch, our Queen of Hearts. The day we pulled you from an Oklahoma kill pen almost five years ago was our lucky day. You will live out your life here safely and loved the way you deserve to be. 🆘🆘🆘🆘🙏🙏🙏🙏👉We had to get these 4 horses off of the lot and to quarantine but we and JWE are still in urgent need of funds to cover their initial costs. Poor Diamond was in pain and exhausted and had to lie down once she got to quarantine. The vet did examine her and she has an abscess in her left hind and appears to have been neglected from chronic founder with no support for a long time. There is some rotation but hopefully can be managed. She will be on a special diet and rechecked and is given pain meds. Till the chestnut gelding has an upper respiratory infection. So many people do not understand what these horses go through at these lots. 🙏🙏🙏🙏Prayers for their healing and recovery. ❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹❤️🩹 Unfortunately theses horses will most likely be in quarantine longer than 30 days and there will be more costs after their initials costs & funds needed. We appreciate all of you that give what you can. We ask that you continue to share this fundraiser for these horses so we and JWE can hopefully raise the funds needed at the moment. Right now, we have raised $2135 for Diamond and Elmo for their initial costs and still need to raise $1865 more. And JWE has raised $1200 for Till & Milly and still needs to raise $2800 more.
