Have you considered starting a #MiniVinnies at your school? Mini Vinnies empowers students to become advocates for social justice within their school and wider community. This is a great way for students to consider actions for change surrounding the #SDGs. #UoNTeach #EDUC4750

Some great ideas for reducing negative patterns of consumption! They can easily be incorporated into schools for students to take responsibility in living sustainably. How many do you already practice? #reallifelearning #UoNTeach #educ4750 #SDG12

Here is a link to the read aloud of 'The Mess That We Made' by Michelle Lord. A fantastic and powerful literacy resource that explores the environmental impact of plastic on our ocean and marine life. #SDG14 #UoNteach #educ4750 youtube.com/watch?v=lR_9-i…

@NataleeGillett I agree, connecting with each other and with the wider community is super important for wellbeing and building authentic relationships! Being involved in the community through sports or hobbies could be one way to achieve this

@chloeboller This is a great question! As teachers, we can look at creating a friendly learning environment that promotes positivity and community, as well as providing opportunities for students to collaborate on activities and participate in discussions

#SDG1 is often seen as physical challenges like money and food, but mental health plays a huge role for those living in poverty (AIHW, 2021). What are some ways that students could increase social inclusion to help those affected by poverty in our community? #UoNTeach #educ4750

@rose_emerton Starting a class garden could be a fun way for students to get engaged with sustainable production of foods and to ‘plant the seeds’ of environmental stewardship!

@rose_emerton I think it would be awesome to see members of the local Aboriginal community come into our classrooms to share their wealth of knowledge about these environmental issues with students!

Did you know land degradation, declining soil fertility, unsustainable water use, overfishing and marine environment degradation are all lessening the ability of the natural resource base to supply food. #SDG12 #UoNTeach #EDUC4750

@rose_emerton Wow! This is such a scary prospect, it is so important to teach our young people how to reverse the damages we have caused to the planet. Students could even track their own eco-footprint to see what changes they could make in their own lives!

If the global population reaches 9.6 billion by 2050, the equivalent of 3 planets will be required to provide the natural resources needed to sustain current lifestyles. Now more than ever we need to teach the minds of our future leaders sustainable practices. #UoNTeach #EDUC4750

Here's an idea for a Visual Arts activity that looks at plastic waste in our oceans for #SDG14 . What a great way to stimulate ideas around cleaning up our oceans. #educ4750 #UoNteach

OzHarvest is a great community asset that helps reduce food waste! I know some schools receive food and use this to provide students with breakfast, meaning children are ready for learning, but they are also helping reduce food waste #SDG12! #UoNTeach #EDUC4750

What a fun way to learn about #SDG14 through ICT. Incorporating technology in lessons is a great way to develop 21st century skills and engage our learners! Teaching students to look after our oceans is vital to the protection of our planet! #lifebelowwater #educ4750 #UoNTeach
All Saints Primary School, Greenock@ASP180

Primary 3 were learning all about plastic pollution today 🌊🐠 We designed eye catching posters during ICT to encourage others to look after our oceans and seas 🐳🦀

A great way to implement coding into the curriculum whilst exploring the concept of #SDG14. Scratch is a children's coding program and works to support their computational thinking. Click the link for more #lifebelowwater projects! #UoNteach #educ4750 scratch.mit.edu/search/project…

Tonight we worked on #globalgoal 14: life below water for our #scienceodyssey project. We cleaned up the ocean using #scratch and had lots of fun learning to code :) @KidsCoding #kids2030

@bayleighEDUC Such a powerful statistic - this info could also be used for teaching and learning about #SDG1 No Poverty! Students could organise a clothing drive within their school for vulnerable community members, like donating to recent flood victims or a local homeless shelter.

It is estimated that most people throw away 37kg of clothes every year! Students could bring their old clothes and use these to create class duvet covers or pillowcases. What are some other ways we could use clothes in the classroom? #SDG12 #UoNTeach #educ4750
Vaishali Nigam Sinha@vnigamsinha

From my childhood, recycling clothes has been a way of life. Use clothes and pass them to those in need. Don’t just throw them away! #FastFashion contributes to 10% of global emissions. Time to embrace #SustainableLiving ♻️

BTN is a great resource for students to access reliable, age-appropriate info and resources on global issues like #SDG1 No Poverty. Students could create their own BTN style video to highlight support strategies in their local community #UoNTeach #educ4750 abc.net.au/btn/classroom/…

Communities dictate the need in #servicelearning. In 2018, NCPHN reported mental health as a top 3 concern for Port Macquarie. We know that poverty and mental health are interrelated, so how can this concern be alleviated to start reducing local poverty? #UoNTeach #educ4750 #SDG1
