@chozzle @JorgeCastilloPr None in performance. But you have to deal with Gradle, AS sync, Client setup with baseurl, service interface, app size, and more work to D8 and R8 just to fetch a simple list of items from an API. Frameworks are for scaling when you need to scale.

Let’s clean the house a bit, it’s always good. What is the most dogmatic concept in modern Android development? The one that everyone defends because it’s on the books but in practice it provides no value or it is not worth it.

Hey Apple: maybe skip the feel-good WWDC video about loving developers—after a judge called your 30% cut “anticompetitive,” your 27% fee “malicious compliance,” and found your exec “outright lied under oath,” even referring the case to the US Attorney for criminal contempt.

@dhh The market is so ripe for a Third competitor. Much of legacy tech is this way though.

This is what puts the salt in insult: Apple's desire to bask in a past era's goodwill from developers while raking them over the coals today. You can be feared or you can be loved, not both.

@IceCoolTech @SnazzyLabs Developers cannot make the choice not to as it can cost their job. This is why consumer law in the US is so toothless. Too many anticompetitive opinions like this. You want corporations to make all the rules? This isn't about *rights* it's about maintaining a free market.

@SnazzyLabs This is a terrible take that I’ve seen repeatedly… We, as developers, agree to Apple’s terms. If we don’t like it, we can make the choice not to. It’s that simple. Their OS. Their tools. Their App Store. We don’t have a *right* to use any of it.

@SnazzyLabs Developers making money on the back of Apple hardware and using the app store as a front to get free advertising whilst directing consumers to their store is clearly not fair play. Why would Apple not object to that?

@SnazzyLabs Google does the same but that’s ok? Why should people expect a global audience handed to you to be completely free? I don’t get it.

@SnazzyLabs The 30% is pretty fair. And I think it’s actually reduced for smaller business until they reach a certain cap, then hit goes to 30%.

@SnazzyLabs Lol, are you even an app developer? I’ve built dozens of apps with millions in revenue. The App Store is a gift — Apple handles hosting, payments, and marketing, so developers can focus on coding and building things. A 30% cut is more than fair.

@JorgeCastilloPr Http framework dependency to fetch a list from an API. VM because you can't deal with a simple configuration change.

I see so much FUD (fear, uncertainty, doubt) about the future of sw engineering, mostly from non-devs. Along the lines of “soon anyone can spin off AI agents in bulk that act as hundreds of devs.” A false premise. Just open your airline app that is built by ~hundreds of devs.

Legacy media is done. I'd love to see presidential candidates and political leaders of both parties regularly doing long-form podcasts moving forward. PS: I tried hard to get Kamala and other left-wing leaders on. Bernie was the only one who was game to do it. I'll keep trying.

@AndroidDev Is the default predictive back animation part of AOSP, and will all manufacturers use it? If not it makes it very hard to make legacy apps support it

Okay, I’m late to the game but: Developing with AI is a game changer. Years ago I used Twitter when I was stuck, now ChatGPT and friends answer pretty much all my questions. And so fast.

@FlailedArtist @schmidtim @Steaknegggs Has it been grossly misused? Where? I think trust has taken a hit solely due to social media platforms where people can group think whatever they want without considering science.

@schmidtim @Steaknegggs Do you think that the credibility of "science" as in "trust the" has taken a hit in the last couple of years? Real science is great, but it's a term that has been grossly misused by the people who would fund you

Donald Trump doesn't know the first thing about service. As President, he froze in the face of the COVID crisis and drove our economy into the ground. Violent crime was up under President Trump—and that's not even counting the crimes he committed.
