@SAshworthHayes Actually I think it's to do with the fact they lowered the speed limit to 20mph without altering the bus routes, causing bus drivers to rush

Number of TfL buses damaged in crashes by year and my suspicions about driver quality are being heavily reinforced. The Boriswave strikes again.

In 14 years, the Conservatives: 🔵Fixed Labour's broken economy 🔵Slashed the deficit 🔵Created millions of jobs leading to record employment 🔵Delivered Brexit 🔵Gave record funding to the NHS 🔵World-beating Covid vaccination programme 🔵Took school children from the bottom to the top of international maths and English league tables 🔵Led the World in supporting Ukraine 🔵Handed Labour the fastest growing economy in the G7 In less than 12 months, Reform has hiked council tax by as much as 9% despite promising to cut it. Has to be said.

The entire public sector took a very high profile, triple murder+mass casualty incident and seemed to use it as an opportunity to torment the victims and their families. Just stunning. Claire Thompson should be in jail

I had missed this and it’s shocked me to the core. It’s been my life’s work that this should never happen. It’s in every university training I do. It’s in the national guidance for Universities on tragedies like this. How the hell did this happen?

A few facts, while the dust is settling. Ai2 still is... - releasing open models, folks want to, and it's actually required in the NSF grant - using substantial compute to do so from said grant - funded additionally by FFST (new funding body) on top of NSF, for work in open models Overall I'm confident in Ai2 doing great work this year.

@NathanpmYoung To be fair, I also used to be confused about LSE and thought it was just a really bad economics school because of all the terrible papers coming out of it, but it turns out that the economics department is only a small part of LSE.

There seems to be a sort of centre-left millennial who, confronted with the failure of Starmerism, has sort of retreated into a land of make-believe, like a general directing armies on paper who no longer exist. x.com/b_judah/status…

I’ve seen Paris transformed before my eyes in the last few years, thanks to a not particularly complicated just-do-something-nice social democracy of pedestrianisations like this, mass cycle lane building and planting. The government needs to rush powers to cities to the same.

The π*0.6 RECAP value network training is starting to look good! It's only about 15 minutes into training. I spent most of last week studying the paper and making notes on the value network and advantage conditioning. I'm training on a 40 episode pick and place dataset for so101. 20 are successful, 20 I purposely failed trying to imitate some of the model failure modes I have seen.

To build a sustained human presence on the Moon, we are building @NASAMoonBase, prioritizing surface operations and scalable infrastructure.  - Frequent robotic landings and mobility testing including MoonFall drones  - Starting in 2027 nearly monthly cadence of equipment and rovers with scientific payloads landing on the Moon.  - Investments in power, communications, and surface mobility  - Scalable infrastructure to support long-term human presence The objective is clear: build the foundation for an enduring lunar base and take the next step toward Mars.

Eileen Gu recently went viral for her *surprising* Teen Vague rant on the use of AI in CAD design "sure they can write a kernel and extrude some shapes, but the feature tree and drawings? they are just the products of a much larger engineering process. it’s like, you’re trying to build a machine that can only write down the answer. you need to solve the context problem first before we see meaningful integration of ai in mechanical design."

A bill passed in the Welsh Senedd (50 to 1); which creates the powers to chill speech. The Senedd may prohibit "misleading" speech during elections to nil under threat of criminality. What one regards as "misleading" is often a matter of mere opinion, and sources, in politics. The likely effect will be that very little at all is said in/about Senned elections (which isn't terribly different from the current situation). That may actually be the intention. The bill allows the Welsh Ministers to make an order prohibiting certain statements before or during an election, and it expressly allows that future order to apply to “any person”. Section 22(2B)(e) provides that an order may prohibit false or misleading statements of fact “made or published by persons or categories of person specified in the order or any person”. Section 22(2A) and (2B). says such statements can be “before or during an election for the purpose of affecting the return of any candidate”. Section 22(4A). That expressly says an order under this section may “create criminal offences”. The Tesco Extra (Senedd, pictured right) strikes again.
