Today was “week 2” of our Practically Trained Pastors 52-week online cohort. 112 pastors and ministry leaders were on this live zoom call from multiple countries around the world. @practicalsheph @pracshephesp Amazed by what God is doing.

Appreciate that. Tim Challies has been a blessing as he has shared his own journey through grief. I highly recommend his book Seasons of Sorrow.

Death seems set in stone, emphasized by etching the name on the grave marker. Yet for those who are in Christ, there is a hopeful expectation that the King of Kings will reverse that which currently seems so irreversible. #Resurrection #Redemption

I made a brief stop over in Hillsdale Michigan this morning to speak at this men’s conference. Just arrived at my final destination for the week in Livonia, Michigan to speak at a missions conference all this week. I would appreciate your prayers for me this week.

@cnieuwhof You made a similar statement at an event I was at a few years ago that has changed my regular rhythms in life and ministry. You said “it’s not about your time off, but rather how you spend your time on that’s really key to longevity”. This helped me.

So, this might get me canceled... Sabbaticals are overrated.  Sabbaticals won't save you. What if you could live and lead in a way where you don't NEED extended time off?

Lawson, we love you so much. We are thrilled to see how the Lord has lead you to this point and we can’t wait to see the fruit that he bears in you during this next season of life!

This year Upstream worked with @JohnsonFerry to launch the Renewal Project - a hospitality house overseas for sent ones helping them find rest and renewal in Jesus. Pray these sent ones experience renewal in the Lord and are refreshed for a new season of ministry.

So fun to visit in person @upstreamsending Renewal Project this past weekend. What a cool ministry for sent ones giving them rest and relaxation.

Big life moments seeming to sneak up on us quickly these days. Turned 40 today. Next week Lawson leaves for Central Asia doing missions work for 9 months. Linden’s a senior. And more big stuff on the horizon. Enjoying the journey with these awesome people!

@chriswaye Chris, you should do something like go help pastors and missionaries experience spiritual formation. 😉

In his workbook "Spiritual Formation for Global Workers" Herbert Lamp writes, "There must be more to spiritual formation than being active in the Christian community, affirming a set of beliefs, and acting with a certain pattern of behavior." The Evangelical worldview and practice from which many global workers are discipled and mobilized centers on evangelistic fervor and activity as its primary outworking of the Christian life. Not only does this set missionaries up for a truncated spiritual life (only cognition and volition—know the right thing, do the right thing), it provides little hospitality for the recovery of returning missionaries. It is, you might say, a double whammy.

After 3.5 years, I’m starting my final class for the M.Div. program at @SBTS. Thankful for the support of friends and family, and for Jared Blankenship for pushing me to get started. Almost to the finish line!

@maynard_clay Good stuff. Have you read the “trellis and the vine” and/or “vine project”? Both were formative in the similar changes in my own life that you’ve described.

If I could define the change God's made in my life and ministry over the last 10 years in an analogy, it would be one John Mark Comer uses in his book: "The Ruthless Elimination of Hurry." Here it is: imagine a healthy vine that's growing and bearing fruit (a la John 15)...

Ever meet "Christians" that are obsessed by *one thing* like Calvinism, eschatology, prophesy, evangelism, spanking children, hospitality, prayer, loving your neighbor, church discipline, submission of children and wives, etc. ?? Do they have a false zeal? Dr. Martyn Lloyd-Jones is talking about it in his Romans 10 Commentary.
