@DeanEggitt I can understand your annoyance if the symptom is specialty specific - but if more general ie weight loss, you want me to continue to investigate this in my lung cancer clinic even once cancer is excluded? GPs don’t have a monopoly on being busy.

Latest nonsense from the NHS. If seen by a cancer clinic, once cancer ruled out - discharged back to GP. No thought by specialist about helping diagnose the underlying problem. If needs further specialist input, re-join the NHS queue. Is it cancer? No. Goodbye then.

@drruthannharpur @DrSdeG @BlondiieMama Sure. But equally seems bonkers to me that we expect woman and babies to just crack on and ‘get’ breastfeeding without any help/advice. Most things in life I can do, because someone taught me.

And this is why we don’t give it out. It is not considered a safe drug here either. I know that it is often recommended for increasing milk supply, but it has potentially very serious side effects. The emotional blackmail to breastfeed combined with suggesting dangerous meds is a toxic combination

@drruthannharpur @mamasbelle @DrSdeG @BlondiieMama You’d advocate no support for BF at all? So what would you suggest for Mums who want to breastfeed but are struggling? They’re told that the only option is formula? I’m glad you got ample BF support. I got virtually none.

@mamasbelle @DrSdeG @BlondiieMama Imho, there isn't good evidence to support provision of lactation support in public health. Worse, the more emphasis on breastfeeding, the more babies admitted to hospital suffering effects of inadequate intake. V possible more harm than good as a result of bf promo & "support"

@roisinbevan I had never heard of the Barkley Marathons before last night (not really my bag in fairness). It sounds hilariously random for something so gruelling.

@RoshanaMN Hmm disagree. My clinics are booked 6 weeks in advance. This allows patients time to sort work/childcare etc to attend. Less notice for them isn’t a good thing. I know when I’ve been on the other side!

The NHS wants 6 week notice for annual leave for clinical staff Why is it still 6 weeks? We have shown in the last few years we’re a lot more dynamic in admin & management Technology allows quick notification of moved appointments 6 weeks notice has no place in the modern NHS

Well this is just lovely, and I was completely unaware of it’s existence. Thank you @LauraMArthur, my wean is enjoying it immensely (or rather trying to eat the pages which I think is how he shows enjoyment).

@nickydlane Would agree with this. Have found utilising Outlook to it’s full potential can help! Should probably all have training in that…

I’m a month into being a consultant. Reflections so far… The medicine bit is actually great. But genuinely the most significant omission from training is learning how to deal with the tsunami of emails that you get sent/copied into every day😱 #NHS #Medicine #MedEd #Consultant
