Traffic police in Zhejiang Province, China, are "recruiting" kindergarten kids to serve as "traffic police little assistants." The kids track down people who break traffic regulations and teach them to ride safely. The meaningful social practice program has allowed the kids to better learn traffic regulations while also being fairly successful: those adults who were lectured y the kids in general felt quite embarrassed and told the kids they would learn from them and behave🤣

Just read on Chinese media that there were 300K medical visits by foreigners (out of about 1Bn total in the country), up 15% last year. It’s still very niche but I think medical tourism to China is very much going to be a thing. Even (increasingly, surely) for innovative therapies like CAR-T for certain cancers, where China is a leader

Possible reasons behind $SE 10% selloff yesterday: 1. At a Barclays event, an exec answered a theoretical worst-case question on margins, saying they’d be flat (with GMV still rising) in that unlikely scenario. The context was lost, and rumors spread that margins would be flat in reality. Credit @WaterworldCapi1 for sharing this (can’t retweet as the account is private). 2. Separate chatter suggests Shopee could be entering Argentina, which may explain why $MELI also dropped on the day. Neither of these, in my view, justify a 10% selloff. Markets often react first and clarify later.

@MikeFritzell This is true. However, only realized loss that is considered as causing a loss the the state, which means getting jailed. Unrealized loss is not. Some state pension funds repackaged losing stock into funds, in which the stock will not be sold until break even.

Indonesia: "Investment managers employed by state owned institutions are effectively barred from selling shares at a loss. If they do so, they can face prosecution for causing a loss to the state. In fact, it’s worse than that – even unrealised losses fall into this category."

@MikeFritzell CEOs make up stories. It's their job to tell a story and that story changes. In the case of Substack, they decided to raise more VC money, so they went from "enabling independent writers" to ... wait for the magic word ... "we want to become a social media PLATFORM."
