"When I got back to Apple 10 years ago, I gave the museum to Stanford - all the papers, all the old machines - kind of cleared out all the cobwebs and said: let's stop looking backwards here. It's all about what happens tomorrow." - Steve Jobs, D5 conference, 2007

@Indian_Bronson This is far more honest than the higher ed mirage.
For most, college is a glorified trade school at best or a total waste at worst. Debt and diluted curricula while pretending it's profound.
Why not just cut out the middle man and have companies run formal apprenticeships?
English

No, I think this is right.
Top startups, big tech co.'s, and other large firms should start cutting out college scam middlemen and run highly competitive admissions for all-included dormitory housing + meals for the very best HS students to seek full time employment there.

The reason Nissan has this reputation:
It’s a financing business.
They can’t compete with Toyota/Honda on quality, so they compete on credit access.
Altima is the #1 car for subprime customers.
Marlin, Esq@nostalgiafkninc
Should Nissan be held accountable for what they unleashed onto the streets?
English

@saveusculture I think it’s fine. It’s relevant to show how this would run in 2026, not 1992.
Vintage hardware with a CF or SD card has zero seek time and blazing random reads. The lag back then was mostly spinning rust. Flash fixes that.
Modern software still has no excuse.

I’m regretting using emulation for this in my haste. To combat the idiots responding with “I was there, they’re not this fast, they take many minutes to boot”, my next video will be on real hardware. You will be able to see the CRT flashing and hear the hard drive clicking.

From startup to shutdown, loading Windows 3.1, MS Word, and MS Excel, on a computer several orders of magnitude slower and with 1000x less RAM than a modern PC. Note how snappy everything is. iT's dOinG mOre No it isn't. We don't have to live like this!

@usgraphics I remember thinking how cool the W220's COMAND screen looked when in first came out. Then I actually got to use it…

There was a really weird era around 2000-2015 when all navigation systems sucked across the board, all brands, everywhere. So in 2010s, Carplay and Android Auto was a welcome relief from the built-in nav systems era. It is useful but we brought in all the digital bullshit with it including the giant screens, bluetooth and the dashboard got fucked in the process. Combine it with regulations for stuff like side impact, the belt-line obesity of cars, start/stop and emissions stuff, the entire car industry deeply fucked itself. Nothing is beautiful, nothing works.

@weswinder why? not like anyone could reasonably touch type on that thing
