What Contact Should Actually Look Like Let’s kill one of the most common hitting myths: Most hitters — and even most coaches — think the ideal contact position looks like this: ❌ Arms fully extended ❌ Hands pushed down ❌ Bat level to the ground That might look good on a still photo from the side... But that’s not what elite hitters actually do. Here’s what the real contact position looks like when the swing is sequenced properly: ✅ Hands stay up — around the chest or shoulder height ✅ The bat is lined up with the tilt of the shoulders, not flat ✅ The shoulders are tilted to match the pitch height The problem with chasing “extended” contact: ❌ It disconnects the hands from the body Great hitters don’t push to contact — They rotate through contact, and the barrel gets released naturally along the path of the pitch. That’s why the best swings look smooth, fast, and effortless — because the body is still working when the barrel arrives. I think after the semis and the finals the IHSAA needs to revise their eye black rule. It’s not enforced on the biggest stages of the year why have the rule? Same with knee pads…
