Last week the message was ‘let's see if the blockade works,’ but I don't think they have the patience for that. They tried to open the strait by force, but I don't think they could get any shippers to sign on after yesterday. They pulled the plug, maybe because it was undermining talks with the Iranians, but a simpler explanation might be that they realized (or Trump realized) that it wasn't going to work, at least not quickly.”
China might help, but not much. They aren't going to get too embroiled in the conflict—they are talking to the Iranians, and may be offering some assurances on what Iran can get out of a peace deal, but I don't think they'll go further than that, and they won't commit to anything with the US.
