Poilievre just gave clear, direct answers to media questions about cutting the gas tax to give Canadians relief at the pumps Then CBC’s Janyce McGregor launches into classic “stream of consciousness” babble — rambling, confusing, and somehow always landing in favour of Mark Carney "I think we all have tricks like that" This isn’t journalism. It’s unprofessional, unserious, and deliberately muddying the waters. Her confusion creates confusion Canadians deserve better @brodiefenlon

@JZerucelli The train has been talked about for decades and never made sense. How expansive will the tickets be versus flying? Answer me that!

Pierre and the Conservatives are showing their true colours again. Pierre Poilievre says he’ll cancel the Alto high-speed rail project, that’s 51,000 good-paying jobs gone. That’s not a plan. That’s walking away from the people who build this country. These are nation building jobs, paycheques for ironworkers, operating engineers, pipefitters, electricians, and labourers. The skilled trades that keep our communities growing. Canada is ready to build. Under @MarkJCarney, we’re building big and building bold, using Canadian steel, aluminum, lumber, and Canadian workers. Real projects. Good union jobs.

Some personal news to share. My regular column with La Presse has been suspended indefinitely this week, after 25 years and more than 1,000 columns. This was not my decision. The decision is linked to recent public comments I made on social media regarding the evolving media landscape in Canada, including reflections on government support for media and its potential implications. I understand that these are sensitive and complex issues, and my remarks may not have aligned with the publication’s perspective. While I am disappointed, I fully respect their decision and remain grateful for the opportunity I’ve had to contribute over the years. I would also like to note that my contributions were always made on a voluntary basis. I was never compensated for my columns, and have personally supported La Presse through a paid subscription throughout that time. It has truly been a privilege to write for such an important institution. I continue to believe that open, thoughtful discussions about the future of media in Canada are both necessary and healthy.

@CTVNews If Canada were managed like a business, we’d grow revenue by developing our resources. There’s no reason to raise taxes on citizens instead of generating revenue. Unless of course, the plan is to tax your citizens into poverty.

He was Air Canada’s CFO during the 2008-09 financial crash. He took over as CEO in 2021 when air travel was decimated. Just 6 weeks ago Air Canada financial results showed record revenue. But now he’s out because he didn’t do a video in French torontosun.com/opinion/column…

I’m pretty tired of the government saying “insert X number of high paying jobs” with every announcement they make. Let’s ground ourselves in reality for a moment, shall we? When the Liberals claim 50k jobs will be created by a project intention, they don’t mean that whatever said project is will have over 50k employees… they are including the construction jobs for the contractor(s) they select to develop the project. So no, this isn’t going to be an amazing life changing thing in job creation. It’s temporary positions at the same wage those employees already earn on other projects NOT funded by tax payers. Lying by omission is still lying.

Pierre Poilievre, once again, is showing Canadians that he has no vision to create jobs and grow the economy.   For decades, Canadians have advocated for a modern, fast, inter-city rail network. Alto is a generational investment that will transform travel and connect communities. It will boost GDP by $35 billion annually, create over 51,000 well-paying jobs, and help Canadians work, study, and travel more efficiently.   Pierre Poilievre is turning his back on Canadians from Quebec City to Toronto and the communities in between. Investing in High-Speed Rail means building a more connected, competitive Canada, and proves Canada can get big things done.   The Conservatives, as usual, think small. Turning away from nation-building investments is the wrong choice, and one Canadians reject at a time when we need to build and grow.

@JasminLaine_ @Charles_string_ No market or it would have been built decades ago. Cheaper to fly than this. Taxpayer foot the whole bill. What will the cost of the tickets be? How much time will it save than the train currently?

@Charles_string_ If Canada wants high speed rail… they could allow the private sector to build one. If there’s a market, there will be capital

No offense to those down south but the Americanization of the Conservative Party of Canada has been devastating. It's like Poilievre can't imagine any use for high speed rail. John A MacDonald would probably personally kick Pierre out of the country if he was alive to see this.

No one is asking the more alarming question - what’s Carney doing with $5+ million a day he’s raking in with the GST of 5% on the 40ct/l increase in gasoline, 70 ct/l increase in diesel or the 95 ct/l hike in jet fuel since the war began? They need to give back this windfall
Rob Montgomery@monty4024

@CanAffordableE @GasPriceWizard There are many countries that are helping at the moment by giving 3 months or more of tax relief on both gas and diesel taxes. Ours is TOO addicted on the Damn revenue!

@stevenmackinnon Steven, are you suggesting this rail line is going to employ 51k people? Or are you referring to the temporary construction jobs to who the federal government contracted this out to?

EDITORIAL: Industrial carbon tax goes up again At a time when the cost of living is a major concern to Canadians, Canada's industrial carbon tax increases by almost 16% on Wednesday to $110 per tonne of emissions, on its way to $170 per tonne in 2030. torontosun.com/opinion/editor…
