In over 15 years of open source, I can't remember ever saying "your example doesn't compile" (I probably did, but it's so rare I can't remember). Now, I literally say this everyday. Please, can people using AI be less fucking stupid about it.

Classic Librato has only been available as a Heroku Add-on for some number of years now. My understanding is it's finally being sunset tonight. Will always be grateful to my colleagues and all of our amazing users for making it possible.

@mitchellh Team ~/code here. Has always been this way. I put personal writing and obsidian notes here too. I don’t have a good reason for it.

For over a decade, I've used a GOPATH filesystem layout for my code (despite not using Go), because I liked it. Well, I realized finally that I don't hop between more than a handful of projects, so I put them all in `~/Documents` now, which exists by default on all my systems. I noticed a Ghostty maintainer doing this and thought "... wait... they're right." The "Documents" home folder exists on macOS by default and on many Linux desktop environments. It sits empty for me. It's perfect. So here I am. I hated the capitalized letter in that folder at first, but got over it pretty quickly. I think people will hate this, lmao.

I shared this message with the team this morning:  Did we just get sherlocked? Yesterday, Apple essentially built Raycast into Spotlight. Or at least, that's how it felt watching WWDC where they announced the new macOS Tahoe 26. Taking a step back this morning, I wanted to reflect on it. We've been building for five years now, and it was never a question of if Apple would try to catch up, but when. While I didn't expect it this year, it didn't come as a surprise either. Raycast is for power users that want to get more done with their computers. When Apple introduces millions (billions?) to clipboard history, they're creating our next users. People will run into limitations and want more from a launcher, which is where we step in. The line has moved, but this is a benefit for us. You've probably seen tweets like declaring us dead, but you've also noticed our community's loyalty in the responses. We're seeing the fruits of years of work. Our users didn't just install a tool, they fell in love with it. This is why we focus on brand and why community matters so much. There are also things that we can learn from Apple. The new modern Liquid Glass design with more rounded borders will feel more familiar to users. Default quick keys for system actions make it easier for people to get started. We can take inspiration from these things and build on them. That's what competition does. It pushes us to be better. In many ways, yesterday felt like validation. Apple just told the world that launchers are the future and we've been building that future for five years. While Apple catches up to 2019 Raycast, we're already shipping 2025 Raycast. The best is yet to come.

I have been writing code for 45 years, and so far I have succesfully avoided ever having to write Python. Given the fact that soon we won't have to write code in any programming language anymore, I am confident that I can maintain this invariant until my "process" terminates. That is extremely reassuring.

@mitchellh i'd really like for mail to be able to summarize multiple conversations (typically in a "smart mailbox") instead of just one particular thread, which i don't really need. instead, i'd like to say "what are my top 3 todos based on the last few days of conversations", etc.

Really frustrating that Apple put so much effort into their "Apple Intelligence" when most of it seems completely useless or gimmicky (Genmoji). All I want is a better Siri and Siri as of iOS 18.2 is still pretty much useless (improved, but still bad). Related, I tweeted this in 2019 before the LLM boom and I thought maybe LLMs would change this yet here we are years after ChatGPT and Siri is still bad. x.com/mitchellh/stat…
