To show this off I slopforked the @opencode server so it runs entirely inside a @CloudflareDev Durable Object. No servers. No containers. Hibernates when idle. Try it: opencode attach opencode-do.southpolesteve.workers.dev Code: github.com/southpolesteve…
Steve Faulkner@southpolesteve

OpenCode hasn't hyped it up but remote server support is really good. You can see where this is going. Excited to see the end state of what they build.

Props to @Cloudflare for having /dev/fuse available in Cloudflare Containers. Docker on Mac doesn't even do this. Cowards. /cc @dok2001

Please can we have an easy way to mount an files from R2 into a container via fuse With a way to configure the behaviour so we can trade off consistency for performance. In our case, for example, I want writes to be fast, am okay with reads being a little outdated sometimes and am okay sometimes losing writes if a container or durable object crashes at the wrong moment

I'm back to coding full time for work! I have re-joined @Cloudflare after I left there 9 years ago. I'll be working on their container product. Couldn't be happier to be working on problems of that scale again.

Some early HC employees will probably remember me joking that it was my divine mission to eliminate YAML from the world. I joked I started HC only to kill YAML. Like, back in 2013. And we (as an industry) were so close! Then Kubernetes came out and fucked it all up.

@jonas @MikeNomitch_CF @tqbf I'm not in Vegas but I would love to learn more about what you are building and how we can help. I'll DM you and we can find some time.

@MikeNomitch_CF @tqbf @sebp @sebp I’d love to chat / help build this I want each agent to be able to store its state in the filesystem directly instead of durable object state (just to remove a fiddly thing we ‘d have to build) Are you in vegas this week?

Kurt went feral and made a thingy and I don't know how to talk about it but I'm not going to wait for that, I'm just going to start posting about it.

@jonas @Cloudflare Makes sense. If consistency is less of an issue for you (for example lots of different unique files vs one or a few big ones) then you could get by without fuse by having a second process that watches for changes and batch writes to R2.

Because we are running an AI agent in the container and want to expose the state as files And in any case reads and writes would be orders of magnitude too slow. There are FUSE S3 connectors that cache files and accept writes immediately, to eventually be synced to S3 (of course with risk of data loss if your sync thing dies before the write completes)

@codewithimanshu @Cloudflare I don't know about the most, but one very interesting aspect of @Cloudflare is its fully distributed nature. Always being as close as possible to the end user is quite the challenge for workloads like containers that live longer than a single HTTP request.

@superguenter @Cloudflare Full circle indeed hahaha. Yeah the pace of innovation and shipping is one of the big things that brought me back, especially at that scale.
