A veteran Halifax seafarer recently passed away at 101. Patricia Martinson went to sea in WWII & served as a merchant officer until 1980. She had great stories! There is an obit in the Oct. 26 Chronicle Herald that is worth reading: saltwire.com/halifax/obitua…

RMS Queen Mary 2 is in Halifax today. The historic "Doctor's Window" at the Canadian Museum of Immigration at Pier 21, where I work, has a great close-up view of this legendary Cunard liner. Love the rat guards on the mooring lines with paint schemes that matche QM2's hull!

We have an intern program for new immigrants called “Welcome Home to Canada”. We have an annual employee showcase, a kind of a job fair to introduce participants to potential employers. This year it is on Oct 29. Details about meeting these talented new Canadians are attached.

The exhibition "Refuge Canada" opens today at the Chilliwack Museum and Archives in BC. It looks at the experiences of refugees and Canada's track record in responding to refugee crises. Packed with powerful features like this replica migrant boat, it runs until Sept. 20.
