@GMShivers @NomosEvents I mean there is political grift where cronies get millions from the gov as part of the political machine from both parties. Doesn’t contradict your point but it could be where some of that anger comes from.

@NomosEvents It's crazy the amount of people that think there's a secret pot of money they contributed to they're being denied, when really it's real estate and payment processing these days. Very few employees produce revenue. doesn't mean they don't deserve to be paid but oof.

The thing that gets me about this, is that the manufacturing worker gets the largest percentage of THEIR created value. So for example if you make a chair that is sold wholesale to a store for 20$ each the factory tends to only make 1-2$ from that. But...
stepfanie tyler@stepfanie

You guys know if you create this much value you can just work for yourself right? You know you don't have to work for someone else's company right? You know you can start your own business online in about 45 minutes right? Yor so smort.

@iScienceLuvr You haven’t read enough about Jensen if you think he’s a calm composed person. Extremely brilliant, but people have known about his anger for decades

I know I'm late to this but listening to the Dwarkesh-Jensen Huang interview and it's wild. Jensen is typically such a composed and calm person, I've never seen Jensen so annoyed before, it's kinda frightening lol

@JaHathawnh @adamjohnsonCHI Technically people do get cash advances on credit cards to load money into the accounts, or drain from their home equity so gambling debt is a real thing.

@adamjohnsonCHI Tell me I’m wrong lmao. You don’t go into debt when you load your account ! Not even saying there are not systematic problems but literally by design you cannot go into debt

It was right and responsible that the President deleted the post. I'm impressed he took responsibility for it, as I doubted—and daresay continue to doubt—that he personally made and posted it. But the buck stops with POTUS, so good on him for taking it down and moving on.
Rapid Response 47@RapidResponse47

.@POTUS: "I did post it, and I thought it was me as a doctor, and had to do with Red Cross, as a Red Cross worker there, which we support... It’s supposed to be me as a doctor, making people better."

@MartinShkreli @Winterrose Martin, I was very sad to hear about your father. I’m sure you’re a great dad and will continue to be. No money is worth our families.

i chose my marriage and young family over the status and wealth of being a founder again or working 996 at an AI lab and I’ve yet to regret it wealth and status will find me but I’ll never have another family, I love being a dad, and I want to crush it at being married to Elle.

Recently grabbed coffee with a senior VP at a very well-known private equity firm Well above $2M in net worth. Not enough to fully retire but can walk away for a better work life balance if he wants to Just had a kid few months ago and now struggling to decide between continuing this career path or shifting to something that would let him spend more time with family I asked him what is keeping him at the current firm, beyond just money His answer was simple: "Insecurity. I might look back in 10 years and feel bad knowing that my friends are buying their second vacation homes while I walked away to chase an easier life. Whatever job or title I have next would not earn me the same respect" That is when it really hit me A lot of people stay in high-performing careers, not even because they need the money, but rather because they are used to a certain level of status and respect from people around them This only gets worse as you move higher up the ladder and start spending time around people at the same level in terms of career or wealth I asked him if he was okay if I posted this on my X and sought advice on what my followers would do. He agreed. So I am genuinely curious: what would you do if you were in his situation?

@SharrellAnne2 People who doubt that Trump has a plan at this point have a mental illness, and that mental illness is believing they have access to enough information and good enough insight to parse geopolitical chess between the two most powerful entities in human history.

@harrisonjlang @PhilipDBunn We spend trillions to fight tooth and nail against regional hegemons in Asia, Europe, but you couldn’t care about one in the MIDDLE EAST? Look at the news right now?! They would have control of Red Sea and Hormuz, the whole world would be under their thumb.

Never said it mattered for foreign policy (although, it matters in some sense, merely because you can discern motivations). You're the one that brought up the differences... I would prefer just a better ran Israel. If it was better ran, I couldn't care less if they were hegemonic.

@harrisonjlang @PhilipDBunn Why do we care which is the “correct” interpretation of some demon sand prophet? We care about American foreign interests. Any regional hegemony is against our interest. I don’t want either to be a hegemon, I want them to check each other. Can we agree on that?

Ugh. Brother, I don't think you've been understanding what I've said. The theology of the leaders of Iran is more aligned with the teachings of Muhammad than others who call themselves Muslims. There's actually a ton of kind and generous Muslims, it's just that their theology doesn't align with their religious texts. And it would be unfair to say that Israel being a "hegemon" in the middle east would be worse than Iran.

@harrisonjlang @PhilipDBunn You said “aligned with Islam”, but Iran is right now bombing Islamic countries. The distinction is important. And great, glad we are both opposed to Israel. Understand that Iran is the counterweight in the region to this pariah and without them Israel becomes a hegemon.

@convexist @PhilipDBunn Nope. Shia and Sunni Islam are both terroristic. And I would call any "radical" islamic group an "orthodox" expression of Islam. And yes and beyond the Middle East.

@convexist @PhilipDBunn No, I wouldn't say that they're religious radicals, I think they truly are in alignment with Islam. And if America didn't act swiftly, we would have a North Korea in the middle east.

@hailthebluemoon @sprachspiele @bendnature Either there IS an authority to say what evil is or there isn’t and there’s no such thing as evil. Some “gods” from old days never claimed to be the ultimate authority, so this argument only applies to a diety that claims ultimately authority.
