Another factor people overlook is that when you're talented it's easier to work hard. Being an amazing at something is fun and motivating. The guy who's benching 4 plates after a year in the gym is much more likely to decide he loves bench pressing than the guy who's still grinding to hit 2 plates.

Honestly, in most realms, I’ll take God-given talent over hard work. Top talent is rare, but less rare than the pure obsession that it takes for a relatively normal person, in that realm, to beat top talent. A better way of putting it is, I think it takes .000001% work-ethic to beat the .0001% genetic package.
