Psychiatrists sell sickness to the worried well by "disease-mongering," defined as “the act of convincing essentially well people that they are sick, or slightly sick people that they are very ill.” Psychiatric texts describe difficulties associated with regular life problems which are categorised as "disorders". It's a practice that holds psychiatry up to ridicule. It's also resulted in non-psychiatrists as well as psychiatrists themselves commonly referring to psychiatrists as not being "proper" doctors. Psychiatric narratives can be blinding unless steps are taken to allow people to be fully informed of the possible risks and benefits associated with psychiatric treatments. If people were fully informed, they could make an informed choice rather than accepting pseudo-scientific, negative narratives promoted by the psychiatric industry. #MentalHealth #psychiatry #MentalHealthAwareness #MentalHealthMatters #psychiatrist

Thank you for shining the spotlight on this. Without this statutory public inquiry, none of this would ever have seen the light of day. @NHSEngland & @NHSNotts have known about this failing team (and numerous other mental health professionals) and took no proactive steps to hold any of them to account. We MUST ensure they do now…
