We understand your frustration and also believe property taxes should end. But please know that the voucher program isn’t paid for by property taxes. It’s paid for by the surplus which comes from sales tax (surplus money that should go back to Texans who have paid too much in sales tax). The money does NOT follow the child. The money comes from a completely different place. Just one of the many reasons SB2 (school choice) does not follow the Republican platform.

We can end property taxes, and that solves this problem. No voucher program - no state money to public schools. Money goes to the city, city decides to fund public schools at whatever level they deem appropriate, and require tuition be paid by whatever bracket they feel appropriate - district answers to parents whose kids are in the school for course and curriculum. But the state is out of it. Allows religious schools to fund themselves and teach what they want, no government money goes to them - so the government has no say. GCC and many other private education advocates warned the Texas Legislature that this would happen. Our own Rep, Shelley Luther, and all our so-called Republican reps, ignored the warning and instead voted for socialist school choice and therefore voted for Islamic, Wiccan, LGBT and a variety of other liberal and unchristian private schools to receive Texas taxpayer dollars. And what you must realize is if they go in and restrict what these schools teach, then precedent will be set to restrict what the Christian private schools and homeschools can teach. We agree. In the case of Texas, a constitutional amendment would have to be written to change the Texas constitution which says that we must fund free private schools. Making private and home schools funded and controlled by the govt doesn’t fix the problem. It makes it worse. What the govt funds, the govt runs.

@county_grayson Should be renamed “school control” rather than “school choice”, it’s always the wording that is the opposite of what it actually is doing.

We are all frustrated with paying taxes for public schools and also paying for our children’s private education, whether it’s homeschool or private school), but the Texas State Constitution requires the state to have provide public education and that the money cannot be allocated to anything else, including school choice vouchers or a write off. The money HAS to come from a different place. But our main issue with school choice is that anytime govt funding is involved, govt oversight must also be involved. What the government funds, government runs. School choice must be repealed.

@county_grayson I must say I didn’t see this coming. I too wanted school choice. We were not rich but had both our boys in private school and still had to pay for public school ISD taxes…it wasn’t fair to pay for something we would never use. I would have been happy with just a tax write off.

It was easy to see… but the socialists (fake conservatives) that “represent” Texas didn’t listen. They sold out. It’s only going to get worse the longer known socialists are allowed to pretend they are something they are not. School choice was redistribution, central planning and billions in fleecing of Texans. It is going to kill a free market by design. It’s pretty much Obamacare for private education. If you’re following personalities over principles you’re killing Texas.

Universal basic income doesn’t end with dollars free flowing into your bank account. It ends at the end of a long line with a meal ticket and water rations.

@soundpwn It has everything to do w it. Our religion dictates that we believe Christ is King, and that we love everyone. By your argument, no beliefs are ok. Are Jews anti Christian? Are atheists anti Christian and antisemitic? Why are Christians the only bad guys for their beliefs?

This was a well-done podcast on the story of conservative opposition to the Texas vouchers scam... from grassroots beginnings, to betrayal, to current state... Glad to have participated in this episode.

You can't be trusted to carry the banner of conservatism if you support redistribution, central planning and billion $ government programs like fake school choice. You can't be trusted because you have abandoned the free-market, competition and fiscal responsibility. And most dangerously, political self-preservation has motivated you to dishonestly redefine these liberating terms to include a government hand. Central planning is not competition. Redistribution is not a free market. Billion $ budgets is not fiscal responsibility. Socialism is not conservatism.

I am against a draft. I consider a draft 💯 counter to freedom and liberty. If government cannot rally volunteers to war, then war should not happen as the people’s priorities are not aligned with the politicians. Conscription is a form of slavery, perhaps the ultimate form.

You never covered the conservative coalition letter against school choice subsidies, with over 65 pages of signatures, featuring over 40 conservative organizations, 10 homeschool groups representing over 8k homeschool families, dozens and dozens of conservative influencers and elected officials, and 2000+ individuals that GCC sent to all the Republican reps.
