. Europe’s biggest energy problem may no longer be generation - but grid coordination between France, Spain, and Portugal Europe may need to invest aggressively in grid modernization !!! The Iberian blackout is often framed as a “renewable energy failure,” but the reality appears more complex. The core issue was not renewable generation alone. It was the speed and scale of renewable deployment relative to grid coordination, flexibility, and infrastructure modernization. Spain and Portugal now operate one of Europe’s most solar-heavy electricity systems. During certain hours, solar production becomes extremely large. But the surrounding grid architecture has not fully adapted to these new operating conditions. Several investigations pointed toward according to the investigations: - voltage instability, - weak reactive power management, - limited interconnection with France, - insufficient real-time visibility, and - cascading inverter disconnections. One major issue is that Iberia still behaves partly like an “energy island” Electricity export capacity toward France remains relatively constrained compared with the scale of renewable growth across Spain and Portugal. Spain has a large internal transmission network and rapidly growing renewable generation, but cross-border transfer capacity toward France remains relatively constrained. As a result, excess solar and wind generation cannot always be exported efficiently, increasing curtailment, negative pricing, and grid balancing pressures. @lauriewired It's not technology that is stuck. Speakers still evolve with the use of new materials (kevlar, ....). But few buy them because the market turned toward low quality mass production. People listen to low quality music (compressed to death) on low quality devices (in ear).

How many technologies are stuck in a local optima? Big loudspeakers basically peaked in the 1970s. Obviously we’ve gotten somewhat better, but it’s a lot closer to: “a couple % more accurate” than “the average person immediately notices the +50-year technological progress” Miniaturization has improved a lot, so has digital signal processing, amplification. But take a high end setup from 50 years ago, sit in the sweet spot at the same volume…it won’t feel radically different. I’m trying to think of other fields where the underlying principles were so mature that half a century of progress in materials/software/electronics is underwhelming. Camera Lenses seem like a good candidate. Non-electronic instruments is another; it’s not like cellos have gotten that much better in the last ~300 years.

@Defence_Index The Japanese had a similar concept with Yamato battleship during WW2. They developed Bee Hive shells dispersing thousands of pellets, fired from its 460mm monster cannon, aiming at shooting down squadrons of bombers. It did not work at all, and this Leclerc idea is equally silly.
