@crictorz @steph_palazzolo It’s not absurd. It’s selling smart bullets that will only fire on lawful targets, and then the buyer asks you to disable the smart only-lawful-targets part. Also, these same smart bullets can instead be used to cure cancer, transform education, and develop clean fusion.

The Department of Defense said they would use AI for lawful purposes. Amodei said they wouldn’t. Who do you think is more likely to be right? lol It’s like selling bullets and then claiming you can’t supply them because someone might use them against civilians. That’s the absurd position here.

Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei told employees on Friday that the OpenAI-Pentagon deal was "safety theater" and the Trump administration didn't like Anthropic because it hadn't "given dictator-style praise to Trump." He expressed skepticism at the safeguards OpenAI touted.

@rschmied Devil's advocate: When not using a good document template, a common low-tech formatting time-saver is to open the last document created and then edit the body. It's plausible that someone opened a letter from the day before and replaced the text, but forgot to edit the date.

@CourageHabit @DHSgov This is an American, a nurse. He was filming with his cell phone while carrying a licensed concealed weapon--a gun which he did not draw, even when ICE agents attacked and subdued him. Then they found his gun at his waist. After he was on the ground and disarmed, they shot him.

@DHSgov The only mistake your agents made was not shooting him sooner. It’s too dangerous to engage in a prolonged struggle with violent illegals, especially when the education-system-brainwashed rioters get involved.

At 9:05 AM CT, as DHS law enforcement officers were conducting a targeted operation in Minneapolis against an illegal alien wanted for violent assault, an individual approached US Border Patrol officers with a 9 mm semi-automatic handgun, seen here.  The officers attempted to disarm the suspect but the armed suspect violently resisted. More details on the armed struggle are forthcoming. Fearing for his life and the lives and safety of fellow officers, an agent fired defensive shots. Medics on scene immediately delivered medical aid to the subject but was pronounced dead at the scene.  The suspect also had 2 magazines and no ID—this looks like a situation where an individual wanted to do maximum damage and massacre law enforcement.    About 200 rioters arrived at the scene and began to obstruct and assault law enforcement on the scene, crowd control measures were deployed for the safety of the public and law enforcement.  This situation is evolving, and more information is forthcoming.

@RichardDawkins 10 years of Trumpism and you are still taking him extremely literally, falling for the bait every time. The issue is whether the USA should be financially responsible for the defence of Greenland - any other concern is irrelevant.

@BretWeinstein There are north of 50 million immigrants from Latin America living in the US. There are less than 5 million Chinese living here. Both numbers are too big. But it’s very obvious which is the bigger problem.

I have been baffled by the Trump administration’s obsessive focus on deporting Latin Americans while seeming to ignore the flood of Chinese migrants (mostly military age males) that we witnessed coming across the Darian Gap. The danger is all too obvious.
joshua steinman (🇺🇸,🇺🇸)@JoshuaSteinman

30,000 military age Chinese males were released into country during the last administration. It is CRITICAL that we find them and deport them. Because a significant number are almost certainly part of covert sabotage and programs. Qilin Wu was one of them:

@AvailableLite9 @GavinNewsom Wrong. He was in office for the whole thing. Census offices were all opened in 2019. The actual census ran January 2020 - October 2020. Trump left office on January 21, 2021, three months after the 2020 census was completed. Name-calling and lies in all caps don’t change facts.

Not after January 21, you lying, leftist, PoS. Trump was essentially hamstrung by the raft of lies, insults, and wild charges that you lefturds were throwing at him after the stolen 2019 election. Trump had NO CHANCE WHATSOEVER to effect the results of the census in 2020. AND YOU KNOW THAT! Yet... You continue to lie - about everything. Because the people who believe your lies are just as stoopid as you believe them to be.

@satomiekou @dhh @jetbrains “Police officer”. “Firefighter”. Say what you will about these settings, but “fireperson” is a ridiculous strawman. Most people here in the US switched to saying “firefighter” rather than “woman fireman” 30-40 years ago.

@michaelharrigan You may be angry. You may feel like the half of the US that is more left-leaning than right are all violent criminals. But they are not. Your feelings aren’t facts either. Mentally ill people do, in fact, go kill people because they are mentally ill. Not because they are liberal.

Is there a word to describe a sort key where two distinct rows never compare the same? Where 'select * from t order by t.k' produces the same result even if the sort algorithm is not stable.

@OntologicalMax @pickover We don’t replace stones after drawing. So in your 4 stone scenario, after drawing E there is a 1/3 chance of drawing the other E but a 2/3 chance of drawing O. So a 1/3 chance of drawing 2 that match in parity (sum=E) and a 2/3 chance of drawing 2 that don’t match (sum=O).

Maximilian@OntologicalMax·
There is an equal number of E & O, so the amount of each doesn’t matter. You can figure it out using just 4 stones, 2 of each. There are only 3 possible combinations: E+E, O+O, E+O. In the first 2 combinations, they will always add up to an even number. Only in the last combination will it add up to an odd number. Therefore, there is a 2/3 chance that any 2 randomly selected stones will deliver an even number.

Mathematics. In front of you is a stone labeled 1, a stone labeled 2, another labeled 3 -- all the way up to 100. (No numbers are repeated). You remove 2 stones at random. What's the probability their sum is even?

Why can't the reporter just ask questions and be interested in the guest's unique perspective, rather than pretending to know the answers (which she was briefed on 10 minutes ago) and fighting all the time? This is one reason why podcasts are winning. x.com/WallStreetApes…

@lefoudubaron @JamesSurowiecki Yes. And it agrees with what he said. Epsilon times phi is just a constant. Subtracting m_i (exports) from x_i (imports) gives the trade deficit. So the whole right side of the equation is just trade deficit divided by imports, times a constant. Which is what Surowiecki said.

Just figured out where these fake tariff rates come from. They didn't actually calculate tariff rates + non-tariff barriers, as they say they did. Instead, for every country, they just took our trade deficit with that country and divided it by the country's exports to us. So we have a $17.9 billion trade deficit with Indonesia. Its exports to us are $28 billion. $17.9/$28 = 64%, which Trump claims is the tariff rate Indonesia charges us. What extraordinary nonsense this is.
James Surowiecki@JamesSurowiecki

It's also important to understand that the tariff rates that foreign countries are supposedly charging us are just made-up numbers. South Korea, with which we have a trade agreement, is not charging a 50% tariff on U.S. exports. Nor is the EU charging a 39% tariff.

@RaneyDraney427 @JamesSurowiecki He noticed that for each country, if you do simple arithmetic (subtract two numbers and divide the answer by another), you get exactly the same number as the administration is charging for tariffs. Just brilliant. Because Indonesia has a high tax on coffee imports, Trump's going to put a 32% tax on coffee imports from Indonesia - even though the US exports no coffee to Indonesia (or most anywhere else). He literally does not understand the concept of comparative advantage.
