@hughhewitt @Pontifex Hugh, I love you, but I am embarrassed for you by this post. After the Pope's comments about Lebanon being a model multi-confessional state, this seems more like a pattern than fumbling boomer ignorance.

Friends: @Pontifex is new to the job. He’s a Boomer American Catholic who has spent next to zero time on national security issues around the world. I doubt there were serious courses on the Iranian revolution in Seminary and it occurred after his college years. His life has been devoted to serving the poor and the Church. He inherited Francis’ Vatican and while it is obvious he knows as much about the Islamic Republic as I do about the Rule of St. Augustine, it is not too much to ask for patience while he settles into the new job.

NEW:🇮🇷🇻🇦Pope Leo XIV presented Iran’s ambassador to the Vatican, Ayatollah Hossein Mokhtari, with the highest diplomatic honor of the Vatican, the ‘Order of Pius’ The medal was awarded for Iran’s extraordinary contributions to peace and interfaith cooperation between Christians and Muslims.

@mercoglianos Based on the average engagement that @ChazzonKe had been getting on his posts, he should send you a real nice bottle of booze for helping him become more visible. He may come to regret the increased scrutiny that will come with it.

It appears, according to Keith, I am old, outdated, and utterly out of touch with modern logistics and supply chains. Well, I guess I will be packing it up and heading to the ole' folks home now. It has been a good ride!

I'll say this, your book is rather well cited and you take time to properly provide adequate citations. You appear very educated on historical matters, which aligns with your focus on maritime history. But when it comes to modern day events, using technology to monitor data, pull information directly from broker and underwriting API's you fall flat on your face. You work in the historical space, slow moving, slow adapting, slow to adjust. Whereas analyst and modern logisticians need to be flexible and work on evolving conditions that move in seconds, not decades. Which explains why you can't cite current data even when you make claims of having access to quotes. You fall back on your legacy and historic understanding and attempt to use that to leverage a modern expertise in a space that changes more in an hour, than you likely saw over decades. History is great, we need it. But you make statements of fact or statements to downplay yet you've never been able to cite current data. Which tells me you are trying to leverage your expertise as a historian as someone who is an expert today. Which clearly you are not. When brokers and analysts see a completely different picture. You can't even comprehend how API's pull data and immediately tried to discredit. You are old, outdated, and utterly out of touch with modern logistics, supply chains, and the overwhelming amount of data available to anyone who pays for access to the data.

Here is a pro-tip. When general munition levels are public record, when production levels are public record, and when you show off and discuss routinely the number of strikes, assets used, and how any missiles/round you fired...it does not take a strategic genius to do basic math to see we are well into our reserves. We have justification books released annually which outlines procurement levels, order timelines, costs, and historic expenses. We have the GAO annual assessments which covers acquisitions, modernization, and more. Which gives more insight. We can also monitor DOD contract notices throughout the years to watch for buildups or production cooling. During Operation Iraqi Freedom we fired roughly 850 tomahawk missile throughout the entire war. Yet y'all fired that many in barely 60 days here. We can track production levels against public reports on firing volume which you yourself are a fantastic source of leaks of consumption data. 🤷‍♂️ Also, tomahawks for example are on block 5. We can estimate conversations through the above mentioned reports as well as production of pure block 5 production levels with a high degree of accuracy. Limited production due to peacetime makes counting easier. In summary, you are stupid. You don't understand what is reported within your own agency reports, you don't understand how DOD procurement works, and you are utterly incapable of doing simple addition and subtraction. So of course you lack the basics of data analytics and analysis. 🤷‍♂️

@mercoglianos I wouldn't read that much into it. I imagine CENTCOM will use whatever means are most efficient in the moment to disable a blockade runner. 20mm is as good as a 5" gun for that purpose.

I have some questions about this. Why use an F/A-18 to shoot out a rudder? I am not an aviator but that does not seem like the appropriate system to use. Also, if you are using a jet, does this indicate that the US is spread a bit thin as no ship was able to conduct the intercept. Every time we have a situation like this, it raises more questions.
