@gc_psk @LandonB32 Data security is a significant aspect of the GDPR, and it is, as far as I know, the only regulation in Europe that indirectly demands e.g. encrypting passwords. So would see it as deeply connected than wildly different..

@LandonB32 @gc_psk Its not that complicated in the end, you just have to care from the start, like you also care for encrypting passwords. If you can’t afford to care for your user’s rights and data security, then yes: better don’t start the business..

@gc_psk Exactly. Getting caught up in that stuff is a great way convince yourself not to start. Shouldn’t even be a consideration when starting IMO, but I’m also based in the US. Might be different in EU.

@gc_psk But that’s why this whole „ship more/early“ thing is so dangerous imho. As a solo dev you have to take care of the boring stuff like gdpr, having proper gdcs and data policy too. it doesn’t matter if a product is „fake“ or real, or if it makes money or not.. data=responsibility

Context: nothing wrong with requesting data to be deleted! I know GDPR fairly well; I worked for *the* GDPR compliance company. And I agree with it... at least partially. I was taken aback because: - the data was entered into a demo product (fake): the data doesn't go anywhere. - the overly serious vibe? I will, of course, delete the data; that's not even a question. It's the right thing to do. At the same time, if you email a solopreneur juggling between 3000 tasks to make ends meet to delete your data from a fake product in which its data goes absolutely nowhere, maybe you could work it "Hey, just tried your product and added real data. Could you please delete it? Thanks".

Things you absolutely don’t need to launch: - a favicon - unit tests - a logo - an LLC - tax compliance - VAT handling - a merchant of record - terms and conditions - a privacy policy - a copyright notice - a trademark - commit messages - code reviews - code comments - a deployment system - continuous integration - docker - a web framework - monitoring - pager duty - reset password - dark mode - a nosql database - serverless functions - cloudflare - a load balancer - a twitter handle - multiple pricing plans - purchasing power parity - a blog - a roadmap - animations - a changelog - venture capital - an affiliate program - a system status page Things you absolutely need to launch: - some way to bring attention to your product

@jamesm @brian_lovin @theiconicapp Better search. Variable sizing and stoke width (with reasonable constraints) based on someone’s design system needs (store this for all icons for the user) - I prototyped this, hmu if you want to see. Exporting/copying with currentColor already set as color.

@daniel_stieber @DaronSpence @benjamincrozat @laravelphp Another one that causes issues is a trailing period "." - if the password is displayed outside a box, it can easily look like the end of a sentence: Your password is: abc123. I suspect some domain registrars did it intentionally for their EPP/domain transfer keys. 😡

Who wrote the code for the new Str::password() method in @laravelphp 10? It’s pretty damn clean. 👍

@DaronSpence @benjamincrozat @laravelphp Had a lot of troubles when some passwords had spaces at a clients system. Even when you copy/paste it, you never know if start/end space is intentionally part or not - and people removed it for a lot of error&confusion. Good catch and nice fix @valorin

@benjamincrozat @laravelphp The only potential downside I see here is allowing spaces as the first/last char. It could be a non issue or it could cause some very nasty unintended behavior for users. Imagine a pw has a trailing space. Middleware will trim it and they cannot log in.

@Shpigford I’m at the point where I consider setting up an old smartphone as a dump phone for that. Audible and many apps are just too badly done for ‘watch only’ (Btw. that random internet surfing just brought me here 😅🙄)

@kunalxsawnt @samuelthompson Companies and tools evolve, and while automations reduce daily biz tasks, every now and then you add a new unit, distribution channel, 3rd party tool etc. you want to integrate into your automation processes. CAO keeps the overview and is team independent.

@samuelthompson Agreed with automation but why do you think there will be a unique job for that? Automation is a one time investment that the tech team can do to save time later on

@adamwathan I made a mailchimp pack for @coda_hq that lets you create a newsletter in coda and send it from there. Coda docs support some markdown. @danielstieber/mailchimp-pack-guide" target="_blank" rel="nofollow noopener">coda.io/@danielstieber… With a custom version of the pack, there could maybe done more - maybe even your image scenario 🤔

Are there any email marketing/newsletter tools designed for technical people? All I want in the world is to write emails in markdown and include code snippets. I want to do a lot more newsletter writing but the friction with all the WYSIWYG crap is brutal 😞
