Without this law, if SCOTUS overturned Obergefell (same-sex marriages) or Loving (interracial marriages), any states banning same sex marriages (currently 31) or miscegenation (currently 0) wouldn’t have to acknowledge such marriages from other states.

@ContractJames @MuellerSheWrote On what basis are you assuming two more years will go by without the DoJ moving forward? The major Watergate convictions (Mitchell, Haldeman, Ehrlichman) didn’t happen until 1/1/75, almost 2 1/2 years after the break-in. Look at the trials happening now & the sentences resulting.

@aschwortz I guess think about the big bang. We see two areas of the sky that cannot be causally connected to each other but they are causally connected to us. I would say they are in the same universe.

@danielwlogan I think you’re saying if you can’t test a hypothesis, it’s not in a universe. But I mean if you find two spots where you can test a hypothesis, are those two spots in the same universe?

Maybe someone can help with this great existential question I got from a student today: How do you define “universe”? Especially in the context of other universes potentially having different laws of physics, so we can’t say “the space and time that contains stars and galaxies.”
