Tomorrow my wife goes in for her last surgery from stage III breast cancer. It’s been 14 months since her original diagnosis, and the light is finally shining through the clouds. Three separate doctors told us to not worry about the original lump. She was too young and healthy. We continually put off a mammogram because we didn’t want to be alarmists. Had we been proactive about a scan at the first sign of a lump (a year prior to the diagnosis) we likely could’ve avoided chemotherapy and the double mastectomy surgery. Men—prod your loved ones to get the mammogram/biopsy. It’s the best asymmetric bet you can ever make. An inconvenient afternoon can save a year of treatment or extend life by decades. Women—Listen to your body. My wife probably said 10 times that the lump “just felt foreign, like it wasn’t a part of her.” Early detection makes it solvable. Procrastination makes it mortal. Get checked. Get checked. Get checked.

Failure isn’t fatal. But failure to change is.

Do you get high rates of #womb perforations or false passages if doing 95% with anaesthetic ?
