@rajuvamsi007 To be fair Waymo does carry twice as many people. So it’s more honest to say that Cybercab is 2x more energy efficient when both services are run optimally.

@Scobleizer @eric_turner @thequeenbeetle @Tesla There’s a bunch of people on Reddit complaining about the same thing. Something broke with 14.3.x. @WifeDirtyTesla mentions the “shaky wheel” here as well. I know they did a 20% memory optimization this rev, so it could be an artifact of some compression.

@BLKMDL3 Zack, I think your opinion might differ once iOS 27 comes out. You'll have native Grok, Gemini, ChatGPT available and will be able to fully control all phone features with your voice. It'll be magical for us iPhone users! Perfect for safe use while driving.

Hot take: Apple CarPlay isn’t very good and has given legacy auto the perfect excuse to not develop an actually usable UI.

@rajuvamsi007 @ethanmckanna @wholemars But Waymo and Tesla are in the same business, so there won't be any disruption. If anything, the introduction of the Cybercab will create a halo effect and raise the tide for all ships! Tesla will expand the size of the pie for all companies!!

@Undawg87 @TesCamStudio Yeah, it actually makes me nauseous on the freeways. It's one of the first FSD versions to do that. So I've been using it much less.

@TesCamStudio I noticed mine going straight down a road will subtly steer back and forth within the lane. It makes the people in the car rock side to side even so slightly. My mom doesn’t let me use FSD while she’s in the car but if she did she’d have motion sickness because of it.

@kylaschwaberow I wish Tesla would partner with folks more. I would love to see one 3rd party company license Tesla's FSD system. Lucid Gravity luxury + FSD would be the perfect car IMO.

Got a lot of hate for saying Teslas were “loud”. Here’s a test. Same speed. Same conditions. Same road surface. Same road. Beyond that, my truck is running more aggressive all terrains than it does when stock. See what I mean?

@kmartyn5 @mehauff7 I would pay extra each month for FSD L3. I've love a traffic jam assistant where I could watch movies and use my phone. The California market alone (which is 25% of Tesla's sales) would welcome even such a limited ODD since we spend so much time in slow heavy traffic.

MB was just a traffic jam assistant on some highways in Nevada and California. The ODD was so narrow it was useless. It would simply follow the car in front of it in slow traffic. They have stopped offering it. Tesla would not waste their time on a simple party trick like that, with such limited use, and dated technology. The Tesla system works pretty much everywhere, under any reasonable driving conditions. City streets or highways, all across North America, in Australia, Korea, and has it’s first country in Europe. It does L4 in Robotaxi service. When the self drive act of 2026 passes, hopefully early next year, providing national legislation, Tesla will be able to enable L4 for consumers. Rivian will not have L3 next year. Their system is quite rough, and not demonstrating any kind of a reasonable foundation yet. Following behind Tesla are the Chinese.

Why is Tesla skipping L3? I have in the past talked about the risk of L3 being the mixed liability situation. This article more precisely explains it as the mixed control events at hand off. For nerds only.

@kmartyn5 @mehauff7 Why do you think Mercedes was able to operate it here in the U.S. for the past couple of years? They were the only automaker to ever get L3 approved in this country, and I'm wondering why Tesla didn't try to quickly follow them. Rivian says they will have L3 in 2027. 🍿

FSD can definitely do it, during the daytime, in good weather on highways. The issue is a complicated legal liability situation, around the transfer of control between the driver and the vehicle. It would be a no win situation for Tesla in the sue everybody environment, of the USA. Mercedes and others have moved to cancel theirs. x.com/kmartyn5/statu…

@mehauff7 @kmartyn5 I just wish Tesla would release a limited L3 similar to what Mercedes had with their Drive Pilot. Even if it's freeways only, under 40 mph, in a limited number of states, it's a huge step forward. FSD is technically more capable, I wonder why they wouldn't at least try? 🤔🤔

@kmartyn5 Great article. Yet another reason why Federal standards are needed. Currently, states set most liability and insurance requirements. Having a patch work of states where Level 3 vehicles may be treated differently is a mess for the future of AVs

@KerbalNut @MobofJoggers L4 does not require the driver to be present. Waymo and Tesla Robotaxi are L4. Tesla could 100% determine the circumstances where they would allow L3, this would become Unsupervised FSD. I've been studying these SAE rules for years, but I could be wrong. Can you share a link?

@darylp310 @MobofJoggers L3 also requires specific circumstances where it’s able to be used, which is what Mercedes did. L4 also requires a driver to be present and take over when needed, with sufficient warning, but is much more general in scope.

@KerbalNut @MobofJoggers I think you're describing Mercedes Drive Pilot. They put those specific limitations on their L3 system because it was so basic. FSD could do a much broader implementation of L3. But L3 requires the user to "take over when needed". Tesla could easily do this today if they wanted!

@darylp310 @MobofJoggers That’s L4. L3 is much more clear about its limits and where it can be used (ie, on a mapped freeway below 35mph).

@KerbalNut @MobofJoggers That’s exactly the definition of Level 3. I wish Tesla would at least certify for L3 the way Mercedes did. It’s so much more capable via FSD. All us owners would love our cars even more.

@BitBenderBrink When the farms go bankrupt, the food won't go away. The seeds, land, and equipment are valuable assets. It just means that big mega corps would buy up all these small farms for pennies on the dollar. Very sad for these families, but the food supply wouldn't be endangered.

The number of people in the comments saying "they voted for this, am I supposed to be sorry?" is wild to me. Where the hell do people think food comes from? You think the little bodega down the street is making their own calories somehow? I don't think people realize exactly how exposed the cities are right now.
