@JoyceCarolOates I liked that Tristan wasn’t prone the whole 3rd act.

performances were all excellent but Lise Davidson stood out as a remarkably warm, sympathetic even (at times) flirtatious & manipulative Isolde; when Davidson is on stage, all attention is focused upon her. Act III was a challenge to stage with much distracting fussiness including eccentric costuming & the awkward employment of a body double for Tristan who must have weighed 75 pounds less than Tristan; when Isolde is addressing this Tristan the audience is tempted to wonder: doesn't she notice that this person is not her beloved Tristan? the principal singers are often isolated in ovoid shapes floating in mid-air; other scenes take place inside a large space resembling the interior of a (laundry) drier. what Wagner might have thought of the (tres woke) conclusion with Isolde giving birth to a baby on the very table where her lover dies, one can only imagine. still, the powerful music prevails. ,
