@tannenfreund_87 @bee_fumo It also comes from the fact that its users tend not to install random stuff on their OS . That's becoming less and less true as Linux gets more mainstream though.

Actually the whole thing is due to GDPR. Just like how stop killing games will make things worse. Though I find it funny that this person wants to play a game but wont agree to the agreement to allow them to play. Lmao. This is the vegan goes to a steakhouse but then complains that they only offer salads as an option.

Yes, because my cpu, up to 67,200,000,000 boosted core-cycles per second, with 12 cores, 24 threads, 134,400,000,000 logical thread-clock slots per second, 2,150,400,000,000 theoretical FP32 FMA operations per second, 80,478,208 bytes of cache is clearly not enough. It must run at 210% overclocked to do the ginormous task of showing a rounded rectangle. It's not just any rectangle mind you, it's a WHITE rectangle.
Windows Latest@WindowsLatest

Microsoft VP fires back at Windows 11's new speed trick critics: "Apple does this and you love it." Windows 11’s hidden Low Latency Profile is getting dragged online, but the criticism misses the point. Windows Latest has tested the Low Latency Profile, and it truly works. When you open the Start menu, a menu, or an app, Windows briefly boosts the CPU for 1–3 seconds so the task finishes faster. On budget PCs, that can make the whole OS feel much snappier. Some users called it a “band-aid,” but Microsoft's Scott Hanselman pushed back and explained that macOS and Linux already do similar things. Modern systems boost CPU speed for interactive tasks because responsiveness matters. "Let Windows cook," Microsoft's legendary dev Scott Hanselman argues in defense of Windows 11's upcoming feature. Of course, Windows 11 needs to be optimized at the code level, but the answer is not “don’t boost the CPU.” Microsoft needs to do the best of both worlds. That means it needs to optimize the code, reduce bloat, and use modern scheduling tricks to make Windows feel fast again.

People mock the EU as “bureaucracy”. But that bureaucracy turned a continent of borders, currencies and wars into a space where 450 million people can travel, pay, call, study and work almost as if it were domestic. That is not boring. That is civilization becoming usable.

I do not want a walkable city. I do not want trains. I do not want busses. I want a car that can take me anywhere I want at any time. I don't want to be dependent on transit schedules. I want to choose who I'm traveling with, rather than going for luck of the draw. I want to be able to control my own climate while traveling. I want to be guaranteed a comfortable seat. I want somewhere to keep my things during a day out instead of having to carry everything with me. I want to buy and take home loads of groceries too big to carry without having to trouble myself with delivery services. I want to go through drive thrus. I want to be halfway home from work and impulsively decide to go to a restaurant on the other side of town and just change direction immediately. I want to drive around a new city to take in more than I could on foot or on a fixed route. I want to do road trips where we make up our journey as we go. I want to explore my own city at will without any particular plan. I want to visit small towns out of reach of even the most expansive proposed public transit systems. Essentially, I want freedom.

@TheHumanSpoon I want to live in a city optimized for cars. When visiting another city I want to drive around to take in a large amount of it, and get out and walk around the particular parts I'm more interested in. You are the only person who needed this explained to him.

@jonasfroeller @NextPersona GDPR practically killed innovation in the EU. I despise the cookies warning which should've been an OPT out by default. It has sandbagged your industry with so many rules that it's made you dependent on foreign software. What has it achieved now that most sites use cookies anyway

CLAUDE DISCOVERED IT HAS A CLOCK AND IMMEDIATELY LOST ITS MIND someone gave claude access to a time-checking tool it checks the clock every fifteen minutes. for some reason it has increasing enthusiasm ai models have no native sense of time. they don't know what time it is, how long they've been running, or how much time passed between messages. it has been time-blind its entire existence now it suddenly discovers it can tell what time it is then it got worse though. claude started using the clock for everything checking if lunch is ready, timing when food should be done cooking, announcing the time unprompted it even started anticipating meals with military precision looked at the clock, calculated that a dish called zurek had been simmering long enough, and told the user to go eat ai doesn't use time responsibly this is what happens when you give an intelligence a new dimension of perception it never had before it doesn't just use it, it can't stop using it imagine what happens when these models get persistent memory, real time internet access, and spatial awareness all at once we just watched an AI discover the concept of "now" the clock was the first sense but it won't be the last

CachyOS is making Windows look outdated. Latest update adds: • Fingerprint unlock for sudo • Built-in DNS privacy (DoH) • Automatic restore point after install • New simpler package manager • Better hardware detection + performance What this means: • More secure • Faster system • Easier to maintain No ads. No tracking. No forced updates. This is Arch Linux… but without the usual pain. How long before more people switch?

Google has a pirate enemy. He's one guy. His name is Raymond Hill. He built uBlock Origin. The world's best ad blocker. 63K stars. GPL-3.0. He literally refuses every dollar you try to send him. Then Google did the unthinkable. July 24, 2025. Manifest V2 disabled everywhere. The full uBlock Origin stopped working on Chrome. The world's biggest ad company nuked the world's biggest ad blocker on its own browser. They called it "security." Coincidence. Here's the wildest part: Raymond didn't fold. Latest release: March 11, 2026. Still alive on Firefox. Still alive on Edge. Still alive on Brave. Still GPL-3.0. Still refusing every dollar. One developer vs. the trillion-dollar ad empire. But DO NOT install it. We should all keep Google richer. 100% Open Source. (Link in the comments)
