Today, @Felicis announced that we're committing 1% in non-dilutive capital on top of every 1st check we write to be used towards personalized founder development (exec coaching, therapy, leadership development, peer groups etc). As orgs rapidly become people + agents, leadership profiles are evolving accordingly. KC is a former CIO and eng leader whose last role was Chief People & Systems Officer at Roblox.
OpenAI@OpenAI

AI is changing how work gets done, and we want to lead that transition responsibly. Excited to welcome Arvind KC as Chief People Officer to help OpenAI grow and be a model for how AI-enabled work can expand what people can do. openai.com/index/arvind-k…

@akothari @NotionHQ Saw the new billboard on 101 today! Congrats on the launch, I’ve loved experimenting with custom agents in beta and excited to do more!

Lots of change in venture right now. Talent (eg @eriktorenberg, @jaltma) Capital (see patient cap from @willmanidis) Strategies (eg holdcos, fellowships) Then there’s the part no one’s really talking about yet. AI collapsing workflows means reimagining what a firm needs to be. Who it hires. How it operates. New structural advantages in the making.

Also rolling out, as part of this update, is a simple concept we're calling Library. It'll become the one place you can browse your teamspaces, private, recent, shared pages, and even meetings.

For the past few months, a small crew got together to overhaul @NotionHQ sidebar / navigation. We called the project "Slippery Slope" :) For anyone who's worked on a similar project knows how hard it is to make any changes to navigation, because it directly impacts how millions of people use your product every single day. To my surprise and delight, the team was able to ship something remarkably better in a matter of weeks. We've been using it internally for some time now, and I cannot imagine going back. We start ramping to users tomorrow, but feel free to reply here, and I'll try my best to turn on early access!

Flew 6,745 miles to talk SaaS. Inspired by Japan’s founders — building with craft and calm ambition. Accidentally became a Steve Jobs cosplayer. (Yes, the Issey Miyake turtleneck is finally back after 20+ years.) 🇯🇵

We need to get Eiso out there more. Takes complex topics and makes them easily understandable and consumable. He doesn't lose sight of what matters and what doesn't...cuts through the noise

is deep learning hitting a wall? we have good news in time for thanksgiving :-) after another round of scaling law speculation, @eisokant (co-founder and cto of @poolsideai) and i recorded a 45 min discussion for @airstreetpress. we talk about scaling laws, synthetic data, training infra, reasoning, economics, and much more... tl;dr - there is no wall.

I need a list of “most impactful things to do to meaningfully curb exposure to harmful plastics” Eg: 1. Do not microwave / warm plastics 2. Avoid teflon & non stick pans What are numbers 3 to 5?
Ashlee Vance@ashleevance

Have recently learned things about plastics chemical leeching that I would almost rather not know. Do not let a pregnant mother anywhere near a microwaved anything having to do with plastic and really near any plastic getting warm

17 years ago today we opened our first @sweetgreen fresh out of college the month before. The food world looked very different and we believed we could make change by building community and excitement around real food. I say this with each year, and I mean it even more, but I have so much gratitude for our team, past and present, all the amazing leaders in our restaurants who make sweetgreen what it is and what it will be, especially grateful for @jonnnynemo and @nathanielru 235 restaurants, 20 states, hundreds of farmers, thousands of team members, millions of customers, one BIG mission. Just getting started….

Ross Fubini's XYZ Venture Capital has backed Anduril and 15 other Palantir alumni startups. Now with $325 million in new funds and partners Camille Ricketts and Art Clarke of Notion and Apple joining, the firm is branching out. My latest in @Forbes: forbes.com/sites/alexkonr…

Putting together a panel on founder mental health and looking to include a few founders who have experienced winddowns of companies. DM me if you’d be open. This stuff is so important and not discussed enough.

@bdeeter For the last 5+ yrs @felicis has given founders 1% in non-dilutive capital on top of every first check we write to spend on their own development (coaching, therapy etc). I’d argue the mental aspect is just as important as the physical. Would love to see BVP join us… ☺️

Top professional athletes often sign contracts exceeding $100M and are backed by a strong support system, including coaches, trainers, and nutritionists, all aimed at optimizing their performance. In contrast, top founders/CEOs/tech executives, whose decisions can impact billions of dollars and affect thousands of employees, often lack a comparable support structure. When I was a founder I fell into the same trap and ate like crap, barely slept, seldom worked out, and didn’t see a dentist for 5 years ...even though I knew better and had worked with trainers and nutritionists when I was a college athlete. Been thinking a lot about how to help improve this… 🤔 #healthandwellness #peakperformance

@ajs Felicis was the first firm (back in 2018) to commit 1% on top of every first check we write for founders to use towards their own development (therapy, coaching etc). This made more sense to us rather than hiring in-house.

Are any VC firms starting to hire resident therapists for founders in their portfolios to use? Seems like a no brainer given mental health impact of running startups, let alone rise in corporate burnout in general post pandemic
