@sethlazar It's true that it's not a default option but if you set `/model claude-opus-4-6`, you can get back to the 200k Opus version model.

Yeah I have to say the fact you can't even opt out of Opus 1m back to 200k context feels like this to me. Performance acutely degrades as the context extends, I would much rather they gave the option of the smaller context window, and probably more urgently should figure out whatever Codex is doing with compaction and copy that...

I'm a bit worried Anthropic has an org-wide case of AI psychosis that makes them think Claude is good enough that they can ship random product features without breaking things, but in fact they *do* keep breaking things, and they're not online enough to notice people complaining

@AndrewCritchPhD @deanwball I think disagreement ≠ hallucination. Hallucination was getting facts wrong ("Abraham Lincoln is from Russia"), not reasoning incorrectly ("I reasoned for 1 million tokens and actually this bug is a feature!"). New problems for models to solve but the goalpoast has moved.

@deanwball (Note: it's rare for me to agree with Gary's AI critiques.) Dean, are you checking the LLMs against each other? They disagree with each other frequently, often confidently, so one has to be wrong — often. E.g., here's gemini-3-pro dissenting on biochem: themultiplicity.ai/room/7b607fcc-…

Come to think of it, in my experience as a consumer, LLM hallucinations are largely gone now, yeah.
Gary Marcus@GaryMarcus

How did this work out? Are LLM hallucinations largely gone by now? So now the @FT platforms the same guy saying most the of the tasks lawyers and accountants do will be replaced in 12-18 months? From the same company that said that GPT-5 would be a giant humpback whale that would blow away PhDs? Where is the accountability? The concern about CEOs’ conflicts of interest in selling these narratives? The view from skeptics?

From what we have heard the trip that was approved was different than the trip that took place. That the trip was a mom and pop operation for a group of friends and then ended up being a $200 clinic leveraging the PPA brand and players. Not saying what is factual, just what we’ve heard.

Some things to clarify: 1. This trip was approved by the UPA committee in July 2. We taught 4 clinics 3. We did NOT compete in any event 4. We did the EXACT same trip last December which was also approved by UPA 5. There was no conversation before termination

@tolstoybb I think it's more about how delayed of a grunt it is. Her grunt almost goes until the opposing player makes contact. And she's definitely grunting during Anisimova's backswing.

where's the polymarket for "2025 Word of the Year"? Looking to buy up all "tariff" shares.

@Lethain My guess (without knowing much about how GH handles Pages) is that this is some combination of a stateful system goofing (i.e. a nearline job timed out and didn’t finish handling all files) and caching (when you checkout the old version, it pulls back up the old failed version).

Can anyone smarter than me debug why github.com/lethain/staff-… doesn't pickup Hugo files in content/{stories,guides}/* ? Oddly I can get it to work by removing all those files, and then adding them back one by one. Truly bizarre, and not something I've encountered in years of use.

When I was fifteen, sixteen When I started really to play guitar I definitely wanted to become a musician It was almost impossible because, it was The dream was so big That I didn't see any chance Because I was living in a little town, was studying And when I finally broke away from school And became a musician I thought "well, now I may have a little bit of a chance" Because all I really wanted to do is music And not only play music, but compose music At that time, in Germany, in '69, '70 They had already discotheques So I would take my car, would go to a discotheque Sing maybe thirty minutes I think I had about seven, eight songs I would partially sleep in the car Because I didn't want to drive home And that helped me for about Almost two years to survive In the beginning I wanted to do an album with the sounds of the fifties The sounds of the sixties, of the seventies And then have a sound of the future And I thought "Wait a second I know the synthesizer, why don't I use the synthesizer Which is the sound of the future" And I didn't have any idea what to do but I knew I needed a click So we put a click on the 24-track Which then was synced to the Moog modular I knew that could be a sound of the future But I didn't realize how much the impact would be My name is Giovanni Giorgio, but everybody calls me Giorgio

@abacaj @RuiCarrilho5 The only plausible explanation I heard was that this shift is pricing in stronger export controls... But who knows with the new administration.

@p_millerd Has it though? epi.org/productivity-p… More to the point: OAI's goal though is to build "AI that can outperform humans" at everything. I think this is a fantastic mission, but I don't think this is "what every company sets out to do" :)

@p_millerd I think the goal for many in AI at the core foundries is to literally automate science / accelerate science progress. I think it's an incredible goal but I'm try arguing that it's a bit bigger than The Facebook's OG mission :)

@p_millerd AI cos like OAI, in my opinion, seem much bigger than any revolutionary startup from the last few decades. SpaceX could impact space travel & worldwide internet connectivity but doesn't fundamentally compete with human labor and potentially lead to the automation of everything.
