I think American taxpayers are upset because you took a 7 month family reality show road trip subsidized by the American taxpayer and paid for by corporations you regulate, while not doing your actual job—which incidentally is also paid for by taxpayers who are paying an enormous amount for gas because of a war your boss launched and can’t get out of.

Here are the facts: 1. Production costs were paid for by the Great American Road Trip Inc., not taxpayers. Zero taxpayer dollars were spent on my family. 2. Neither myself nor my family received a salary or production royalties. The five part series will be freely accessible by the public on YouTube. 3. The series was filmed in short, one to two day production windows — such as weekends and the kids’ spring break. 4. Career ethics and budget officials at the Department of Transportation reviewed and approved both my participation and individual travel in accordance with federal rules. 5. Under my leadership, DOT has become the most responsive, productive, and transformational in its history — modernizing air traffic control, hiring 20% more controllers annually than my predecessor, moving grants at record speed, and removing illegal truck drivers from the road. Don’t let the haters stop you from visiting our spectacular national parks, monuments and sights in honor of America’s 250th birthday! Our message is really simple: to love America is to see America. Secretary, have you forgotten that you serve all Americans? You would have been outraged if @SecretaryPete had used his official US government account to insult tens of millions of Americans by referring to a “radical, miserable right” and dismissing the citizens of engaging in the criticism and dissent that is part of our patriotic birthright as “haters” — and justly so.
By all means, use social media & press conference to correct the record about how and where your official office or government resources — our taxpayer dollars — have or have not been used or misused for personal gain or profit.
But stop abusing entrusted power by engaging in rank partisan attacks using your official account, which should be nonpartisan and evidence-based.
Doing so isn’t just about avoiding sanction from @US_OSC for potentially violating the Hatch Act: it’s about showing equal respect to all Americans, including those who didn’t vote for this President or didn’t vote at all.
