It’s amazing how effective these scripts are, and how it leads to working lucrative jobs that suck; going into debt; and losing health in the process. Once you learn what ‘enough’ is, you discover true freedom. At least for me, I’ve learned that I require shockingly little to live a fantastic life. @brickywhat I would highly suggest considering Marin Co. It's 8 miles away and most of your issues are addressed. I commute via the Tiburon ferry and have my kids in public schools etc.

Some additional notes considering this got way bigger than I expected. - private schooling is likely not an option for me - moving to the peninsula/southbay is literally more expensive than it is here, so I appreciate those suggestions but it is not economically sound - I live in a “safe” neighborhood presently, yet our local Walgreens got ransacked by people last night. - I work in SoMa, this can’t be avoided. Offices are always downtown. Anyway vote Mark Farrel for mayor, close the great highway, yes on 36. Bye

I don’t feel safe in SF and every day I consider the consequences my career may suffer when it might be time to leave. The talk of the “boom loop” is all fun and games but when you have been *personally * harmed by a repeat criminal and your neighborhood is consistently ransacked…what more am I supposed to do? I want to start a family. They can’t even keep public schools open? Or keep serial bippers and drug traffickers behind bars? Why would I have kids here? To be clear I love this city so much, it’s the most beautiful city in America. It just feels like my days are numbered. To the parents in sf who follow me, have you felt this way before? Did you stay?

@ericbahn So true. Which is why you can't assume what anyone is going through, so default to kindness.

One of the coolest discoveries of my life is realizing that kindness can help heal others. Just being kind to people who are dealing with their own trauma can go further than you think. Sharing kind note, timely compliment, or smile are all easy to do. And, you may not realize that this small act can be the small hinge that swings a wide door for someone else.
