This week, along with our friends at @deptvc, we responded to the @CFTC 's prediction markets ANPRM. These new markets offer a fresh approach to hedging risk, price discovery and disseminating price information (i.e. truth). We argue that the Commission should adopt a narrow, consistent, public interest framework to regulately them fairly. Markets should only be prohibited if they pose disproportionate risk of incentivizing crimes or other bad acts, or are uniquely vulnurable to manipulation, and neither of these properties can be solved with other policy tools at the Commission, or the DCMs', disposal.
